Hi guys,

What if I want to add automatic people detection to ph?
My idea is as follows:

I carry with me some kind of tag which detects in turn my presence at home. PH knows I am at home and acts accordingly. Any hardware ideas on this?

Peter,

What I do is reserve a DHCP address in my router for my smartphone (so it'll always have the same IP) and then use the ph_ping1 function to check if its available every 5 minutes.

When Im home, my phone is automatically connected to my wifi and the ping works. When Im outside the range of my wifi, then the ping fails.

Do a forum search as I know several other people have done the same thing. Gadgetguy has put together some code so that this can work with an iphone (I use android so just a ping works for me).

Dave.

I've got this running also but it is depending on WiFi.
What if I would like to be independant from WiFi?

What is the difference between ph-ping and ph-ping1?

I've seen where some people experimented with active RFID tagging and such. Most seemed to agree that it was too sporadic to actually track where a person was, but it worked for seeing who was in a building (or home).

There's a few other ways I've seen people do it mentioned on the homeautomation subreddit on reddit. One guy used Bluetooth dongles on several computers throughout the house to detect when a phone was in range to decide roughly where a person was.

Here's one example: Here
