Just got several of the new SmartHome 2342-222 and 2342-
232 RemoteLinc Keypads to replace my old 2440's that ate
batteries like a hungry dog!
The PH "Auto Discover" device in the PH Insteon Explorer
"Devices" tab doesn't seem to work for these guys. It
discovers a type "75" that is devoid of parameter data,
and which PH thinks is capable of only a single
responder. Any attempt to create Links from this remote
to other devices results in error comments if you try to
use anything other than button 0 as the controller
button.
Does anyone (Dave) know the parameters to manually define
a new "Type" for these units?

Two new 'Types' are required. Pattern after the 2440
Type
Types
Ctlr Groups
2342-222 = 8
2342-232 = 4
Resp Groups - both = 0
DevCat = whatever the new RL2/Mini Remote presents
SubCat = whatever the new RL2/Mini Remote presents
MemTop = 4096
DB Type = Linear
Under 'Devices' the new RL2/Mini Remote will have
IEngine = I2CS
Use Ext for ALDB = checked
Note that the Group numbers are odd compared to other
multiple button devices. Normally a KPL, old RemoteLinc
have
button 1 = Group 1
button 2 = Group 2
button 3 = Group 3
etc
For the new RL2/Mini Remote the button Group numbers are
assigned as follows for the 8 button
button B = Group 1
button A = Group 2
button D = Group 3
button C = Group 4
etc
The 4 button Groups are A-D Groups 1-4

Lee-
Thanks! It is always a pleasure to have your knowledge base available to answer these device particulars.
To add to your info I submit the following, where
8-scene is model 222 and 4-scene is 232 ...
222 232
DevCat 0 0
SubCat 18 16
Here is an image of the button to Group assignments for the 8-scene remote (which as you point out are reversed from the normal RemoteLinc history) ...
