I just found this on the net and am pretty excited.

http://www.autonomichome.com/Mirage.htm

This installs a server on your MCE computer (XP or Vista) which allows 2 way remote control over IP. There are several clients available that look very cool, unfortunately one of them is not a PowerHome plug in . Luckily there is a web interface that looks pretty complete and should be very usable.

I've been somewhat successfully doing this with PH by pumping keystrokes onto the machine (see some of my previous posts), and getting the now playing info via Brandon Fuller's "Now Playing" plug in. It sort of works, but is fragile at best - this looks like an awesome full feature (not to mention stable) version!

    Caveats:
  • I'm at work so have not had a chance to try this at home yet
  • The download is good for a trial period of 14 days, afterward you have to purchase a license - a quick scan did not reveal to me the cost of such a license. Often HA software can be very expensive (Excluding PowerHome of course!)

So anyone have any experience with AutonomicHome and / or Mirage? Anyone found another / better way to do this?

Thanks, Tony

A bit more exploring yielded a few blogs reporting a $500 per MCE server price tag.

I may download and experiment, but there is no WAF that will justify that much money.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.
