I just upgraded to NeoSpeach Kate 16. What a difference from MS Mary!
I have noticed a 2-3 second delay before TTS is spoken. Could this be due to the larger file size?

I also have the NeoSpeech voices and have noticed the same thing (not quite that bad, but at least a full second over Microsoft). My understanding is the extra overhead to render the more complicated voice. Definately an upgrade over MS though.
Ive also got the Cepstral voices. Not as good as NeoSpeech, but better than MS. Not as much as a delay as NeoSpeech either. Ive also got the AT&T voices (the demo sounded awesome) but havent loaded them yet because they're about 10 times larger than the NeoSpeech voices. In the process of building a faster PowerHome computer and then will load them up.
Dave.

Sometimes the delay is 1-2 seconds; I gave worst case.
Just the price to pay, I guess. I was also going to try Kate 8 just to see what happens.

When I restart PH, my selected voice changes back to MS Mary. Is there a way to lock in a different choice?

Tony,
From the TTS settings window where you select your voice, check the "Save settings to Table" box. This should lock it in for you.
Dave.

Hmm. I did that before and it didn't stick. This time, it did.

Any idea why this demo (see link) won't play for me?
Neo Speech link
I get "MS InternetExplorer error (-3)". Any idea what this means?

Smarty,
I checked out the link and they all worked for me. You'll definately need Windows Media Player (probably 9 or higher). Other than that, I didnt see anything in particular that would keep it from working.
