Does anyone know how to set up the web server in PowerHome, to access it through a router?
I have Road Runner internet. I currently share the internet through the router. I can access PowerHome from any computer in the house. But, I want to be-able to access Powerhome from work. I just don't know how to get through the router to MY computer. Thx., Don

Don,
Not sure if I can help but I'll try. The first thing...what port have you configured the webserver for? My understanding is that Road Runner blocks the standard http port 80 because they dont want people running webservers from their home . So the first thing to do is configure PowerHome's webserver to perhaps port 8000, 8080, or 8888. These may also be blocked because they are common alternates. You can use any port though, just specify on the http line which port (ex: http://123.456.78.9:8080 for port 8080). Once PowerHome is configured to use a different port, you'll probably have to configure the router. Not sure what your setup is like...if you're using DHCP, or have multiple external IP's, etc. But the machines behind the router most likely have IP's starting with 192.168 or 10. My guess is you'll have to configure the router to redirect traffic on the port you configured PowerHome for to the machines IP that PowerHome is running on. At this point, getting it to work has less to do with PowerHome and more to do with your router and configuration of Road Runner. You may want to post a message on a newsgroup which caters to Road Runner users on how to access a webserver running from your home.
Once you get it working, let me know what it took if you dont mind.
Dave.

I just got my new D-Link DI-704P to work. Very simple; there is a config page where you pick the port number (i.e. 80) and then tell it the IP of the server. I'm online now! Whoo hoo!

I would stick with the higher ports afore mentioned. I would not use port 80. Leaves you wide open for hackers.

I wondered why I get a lot of attack attempts; still a lot of Code Red Worm ones! Oh, well, most of them are counting on systems running NT.
