Hi,

I am really new to HA, but I am very interested to make it
work. But before I wanted to hear some recommendations to
start from scratch. I would like to get the software but
what are some good hardware starters, directions and such.
I'd be mainly interested in remote/phone control of
appliances.

Thank you, any thought would be appreciated.

I started with an x10 appliance device and a CM11A
controller. It was a starters kit, cost about $50AUD.
Played around heaps then slowly bought lamp modules etc.

The most difficult thing I've found is understanding the
software. there is help and I'm still wading through the
forums to understand how people are using it.

Hope that helps

thanks for your reply. what was the starters kit? is it
sold online? I haven't had time to start yet but it is
first on my to do list.

thank you again

Yep, I bought it on line. I just had a look and it looks
like the kit is no longer on sale.

Here are a few sites for you that I researched (all AU):

detail.php?ID=205
http://www.whomedigital.com.au/category2_1.htm

list.php?CID=210

There are some units on ebay

I've found that you just got to get into it.

Yesterday I launched into it where the bathroom heater
turns on 5 min before I get up (its winter here) and the
patio light turns on before we get home.

Today I mounted my first RF switch to replace the ye-olde
normal switch and made the key-ring RF switch operable so
we can arm/disable the alarm + turn on the patio light
before entry.

Next is for the unit to welcome me home, do the above +
turn on interior light, turn on my AV + internet radio
before my key hits the lock barrel.
