What good is the ID not found error in the Insteon Links page. Whenever I get them, I just delete them.
Wouldn't it just make sense for PH to delete them for me whenever it happens? And why does it happen,
anyway? I seem to get a lot of them. Dave, a nice feature in an upcoming version might be to have check
boxes in each row so that multiple rows could be selected and then run commands on the entire selected
group (such as delete).

The ID not found refers to a link record that has an Insteon address for a device that has not been defined or no longer defined to PowerHome. May be a situation that should be deleted in some situations, perhaps normal in others and would be destructive if deleted without end user input.
This is a common situation when there are aspects of an Insteon installation not under PowerHome control. Also when a device has failed and replaced without cleaning up all the links to the old device address.
Have you analyzed any specific situation to see why? Is it a link record for a device that has been replaced or removed for some reason and not removed from all active links?

Another factor may be how you are deleting those link records. If you just delete them from the PH database the next time the device link database is refreshed into PH the same link will come back. You have to delete the link from the device as well as the PH database to keep if from coming back. Assuming you really do want to delete the actual link record.

Here's what I have seen. Most of the time, everything works great and I don't have
to do anything with my Insteon installation, nor monkey around in PH. Then
something comes up and I need to go into PH. Maybe installing a new switch, or
adding some feature to the whole automation. While I am in there, I look around
the Insteon explorer and notice the ID's not found (INF). And the only way to get
rid of them is to click on that row and then click on the "Remove" button. I never
understand why they happen, nor have I noticed any rhyme or reason, or anything
consistent or in common to make me think "Oh, *THIS* must be causing it".
Trying to delete the link record in the device never works. Maybe the next time I
have an INF error, I will dig around, and try to come up with some troubleshooting
procedure.
The last device I replaced was the PLM, replacing an old PLC, over a month ago. I
never manually create any links outside of PH. I do ALL of my insteon management
in PH.
I usually look when I get an INF error to see if that error is on the line of a
previous existing real link, or is it a new line altogether. I have tried looking
at the remaining, valid links, and trying to see if there are any missing links,
but thus far I have not seen any case where the INF error was on a line where there
was an existing valid link. They always seem to be new lines, if you know what I
mean.

I'm having just too many problems with my lights. Today my wife said the kitchen light turned off
for a second and then turned back on, while all the rest of the lights and tv stayed on. And I
have had other strangeness too.
So, I am thinking about hardware resetting all the lights in my house, and then using PH to restore
them. Sounds a little drastic, but I think it may prove beneficial. My question to the community
here is there anything that I will want to be particularly careful about when I do this? Anyone
ever try doing this for every light in their house? I currently have about 30 lights controlled by
Insteon right now.
Thanks.

My only question is why. I would think you would want to try and isolate the problem using traces. Sometimes I have a light that acts strange and have found noise to cause the problem. Other times it because I did some stupid thing.

Hi Pete.
"Using traces"??? What are these "traces" you speak of?
Although, you do have a good point. I have never really looked into my house to
isolate any noise creators. For all the electronics and electrical stuff in my house,
I am sure I have some issues.

Skip, I was referring to the raw logs you can write to file from Insteon Explorer. Kind of a nuisance trying to trap the problem though. I find most of the time when I have a light change it is self inflicted. Usually noise causes something not to happen. The only thing I can think of resetting the hardware would do is cancel out the links and reset any possible X10 configurations.
