Well, I couldn't just leave well enough alone. The X10 end of my system has been letting me down so I thought I'd throw a few more bucks at Smarthome since I was having a few more defective (paddle) icons replaced. I bought an Access Point (2443) and a Triggerlinc (2421). I also have four RF Lincs (to bridge phases) and the Access Point is just to pick up the wireless Insteon from the Triggerlinc and pass it onto the powerline network. I added the Triggerlinc in PH and the Triggerlinc seems to communicate with the Access Point (LEDs blink twice), but there don’t appear to be any Insteon commands appearing over the network. Also, I am unable to “discover” the Triggerlinc by pressing the set button.
I have the Access Point piggybacked onto the PLM, and I notice that the RF Linc LEDs blink in sync with the Access Point, but nothing shows on PH and the status of the Triggerlinc doesn’t ever change. The controller of the triggerlinc is the PLM and all new devices are active (“disabled” checkmark removed) and nothing is “red shaded.” What am I doing wrong? Do I need to “register” the Access Point with PH?

Put the Triggerlinc in setup mode then press the button on the PLM and see what that does for you. You don’t need to “piggyback” the Access Point unless you are experiencing a noise problem. I haven’t given up on my X10s yet but I’m leaning towards it. Still got quite a few left though.

Hmm. One problem I seem to keep having is the Triggerlinc shades red (clear failed) quite a bit. It seems to operate normally. Is this because there is now way for the Triggerlinc to respond to normal polling since it is wireless? If so, should I check the "Disabled" box in the Insteon Explorer - Devices tab?

Yes, to both questions. All the wireless RF devices go to sleep (turn the RF circuitry off) to preserve battery life. Checking Disable suspends Powerhome background activity (device status scan, link management, etc) for that specific device but allows foreground activity (triggering of events for example) to continue. The Motion Sensor link database cannot be read or written by 2.1b Powerhome anyway so nothing is really lost. The RemoteLinc can be put into linking mode which will keep it awake for 4 minutes allowing Powerhome to read/write its link database. Have not heard definitive information on the TriggerLinc regarding support for Peek/Poke commands which are necessary for the current Powerhome to read/write any link database.
