You guys have been great with your responses. I'm wondering how everyone is handling media with home automation? I'm a linux user and linuxmce offers this all in one control, media and home automation, but it is not complete (they offer the total package but it doesn't delivere. I like what I see here with powerhome but it would be nice to control everything with one remote. I would like to hear from anyone that has solved this scenario or come close to it. I'm not a big windows fan but I will use it if that is the only option. If you are not familar with Linuxmce then look at this video:

PowerHome doesn't run on Linux.
I use IR and RS232 for media and an a AB8SS for amp and
speaker switching using RS232. I have several harmony
remotes (different models) which control various
audio/video and light functions.
The thing about PH is there are many different ways of
doing the same thing. Because of that it works with
most media equipment. Also because of that I think
everyone who uses PH for media control does it a little
bit differently....

My media integration is limited to audio only. I use Winamp as the player, X10-RF devices for control, and a touch screen for browsing/control. I also use a USB-UIRT for controlling A/V gear.

I use Vista Media Center (a surprisingly nice interface from Microsoft). I controll it via a tcp/ip socket.
Media wise, I only use powerhome to control the music, but there's no reason it couldn't control everything if I wanted it to...
I do use Linux thin clients for wall controllers... (Nokia 770s)
