Got a bunch of motion detectors this weekend, that seem pretty cool. I realize that they currently cannot be programmed from powerhome due to a technical reason, so I:

1)     added my motion detectors as remotelincs in PH
2)     manually linked motion detectors to my lights
3)     did a rebuild in PH on the lights to see the links

Now I know that ph cannont modify anything in motion detector, but would like to be able to change the ramp rate, and on level that my lights have from a motion detector initiated on or off. Seems to me like this should be possible, because I would be modifying the table one the responder, which is the light. But when I try it PH will not send the update after I change the desired ramp or on level. I get nothing after choosing save refresh. It works fine when I try to change these levels any other link.

Can anyone help?

When you changed the Bright level or Ramp rate in the Links tab responder record and did a Save, what does the Link Status say. If the Enable Pending option is checked, look at the specific device definition to be sure that Disabled is not checked or the Clear Failed column is not shaded in Red.

Do you see anything scheduled in the Pending Operation list.

What kind of responder device are you trying to change the link record in.

Also did you set the Motion Detector in Link mode and link it to PH with the PLC/PLM as Responder Group 1?

Pete, word from the Smarthome forum is that the Smarthome Motion Detector does not support Peek and Poke commands needed to work with a link database. Only an application that supports I2 and the extended message format can do that. That is why the first post acknowledged that PH1 would not be able to setup or change the Motion Detector itself. Some folks think HouseLinc2 with the HL2 enabled PLM has at least the ability to change the Motion Detector features.

It may be that PH has scheduled the link update but generally the controller is verified first so it may be held up because the Motion Detector (RemoteLinc) is shaded or marked Disabled preventing the entire update from running. If this is the case the Motion Detector will have to be Enabled and unshaded as far as the definition is concerned so the link verification and update will be attempted. Activity to the Motion Detector will fail but may allow the following responder link record update to be processed.

Lee, I had to put my motion detector in Link mode to get PH to establish the links otherwise they returned a NAK. I assumed that I had to do this because of the non support for Poke/ Peek. If, while building the links, you don’t set the motion detector into link mode in time you might get shaded areas and will have to clear them. Hopefully I’m not was missing something here.

As Nadler replied earlier:

“This might be the answer to your issue. It's from Dave.

PowerHome will NOT be able to program (create links,
etc.) to the motion sensor since SmartHome did not
include support for the standard peek and poke commands.
They ONLY support the newer extended commands for
working with links. This means that currently PH cannot
program them (nor can any other software).

Once the links are created however, PH can operate with
the Motion sensor no problem. The best way to handle
the motion sensor is to manually create the link between
the MS and the PLM/PLC with the MS as a controller and
the PLC/PLM as the responder. Once this is done, PH
will then be able to sense the incoming group commands
from the MS and fire triggers appropriately”

Thanks Pete. I was expecting the NAKs would have been enough for PH to skip the controller side and go directly to the responder activity. Guess not. I should get one of these devices to play with.

So I am at the point where I see my motion detector in the link table. After putting it into linking mode and scanning the databases, I have: Ctrl Link Status -> "Link not found" and Resp Link Status -> "Verified".

The light is a KeypadLinc. I want to change the desired D Level/D Ramp but after changing these values I get nothing in pending operations. Neither device is disabled and neither device is gray in the error column.

Has anyone been able to get this to work? Maybe because there is a "Link not found" there it is stopping the update? I only want to change the value on the responder.. it seems that there should be some way to do this.

Dave did a post in the following Topic describing setting the local levels.

Does the statement below about the motion sensors only supporting the new extended commands mean that if/when PowerHome can support linking it will require a PLM, not a PLC? I thought I read somewhere (maybe on Smarthome's site) that the PLM supports extended commands but the PLC does not.

The comparison chart on Smarthome continues to say the PLM does support extended messages and the PLC does not. With HouseLinc2 supporting only a PLM it seems like the PLC is no longer strategic. PH2 support for the PLM has been solid for me and I'm even using one of the HL2 enabled PLMs. The PLM is faster than the PLC.
