Hi - when I use F7 to restore a previously-backed-up database (think of it as a rollback), it seems like PH might will then modify that backup file. I want it to -read- the backup file, but then continue to modify the default file c:\program files\powerhome\database\pwrhome.db. Do I need to close PH and copy the backup file to the default location? Or is there a way to keep PH writing only to the default file?

thanks!

Jeff,

The F7 you speak about in the PowerHome Explorer screen doesnt restore or rollback to a previous database version. PowerHome is always *working* with the database that is specified in the pwrhome.ini file under the [Database] section. When you open the Explorer, it will also default connect and view the working database. The F7 key allows you to view AND change another database file (such as the Sample database file so you can export examples for later import into the main database), but it in no way is using the other file for it's tasks.

Dave.

Ok - so what would be the recommended way to rollback? I know I can exit the program and rename files outside it, but is there a way, I guess, after selecting another database with F7, to have it use it as the default? What I experienced is what you mentioned, after F7-selecting a backup file, and then making changes, the changes were applied to the backup file (and, possibly, to the default file?)

thanks

When you make changes to another database file from the Explorer, the changes are *only* applied to that particular database file. Never to the default (working) database unless that is the file you're working with in the Explorer.

If you need to rollback to a different database file, the only way to do it currently is to shutdown PowerHome and either do file copying/renaming or what's probably easier is to just edit the pwrhome.ini file and make the DBF parameter match whatever file you'd like to run and then restart PowerHome. There wouldnt really be an easier way other than to perhaps have a screen where you could select the database file (to update the pwrhome.ini file) and then try to automate the restart process. In order to change databases, every PowerHome related process must be stopped (timed events, execution queue, waiting macros, etc.) and then the database server must be closed and reopened to load off of the new database.

HTH,

Dave.
