It's been a long time since I used the X10 Powerhouse (PS561). When a zone was tripped Powerhouse would signal the X10 controller that the alarm had been tripped but could not identify the zone. Since them there are better systems out there. So to answer your question I would say yes and depending what you expect. Maybe someone out there has first hand experience.

Did you mean powerhome instead of powerhouse? If so, yes, I user powerhome for that all the time. Powerhome has provisions for using the w800-- it is a hardware device to translate x10 RF signals, including security signals, to rs-232.

Nope.. I'm looking at an old X10 Powerhouse Personal Security Console probably 1993 vintage. It can auto dial and transmit X10 signals. It is a wireless receiver.

X10Nut,

PowerHome is capable of reading X10 security signals direct if you have a W800RF32A. This is the only device that I know of (that PowerHome supports) that is capable of directly reporting these signals to PowerHome.

Would it be possible to connect a W800RF32A to an Elk IP232 and have it communicate to PowerHome over my network?

I know there is a free utility to create the virtual COM port on the PC side... would PowerHome recognize the virtual poert and use it to communicate with the W800RF32A?

RFXCOM has an RF receiver that can be connected to PowerHome using a LAN, WLAN or USB.

All receivers for US X10, European X10 and Visonic/ secureLinc have a W800RF32 compatible receiving mode.

Mike,

As long as the virtual port software on the PC creates a COM port, then it should work (I believe Sharby has done this without problems).

Also, as Bert points out, they have W800RF32A compatible hardware that is capable of being connected directly to ethernet without the need for the IP232. I havent priced this out, but it may be cheaper than buying two different components.
