Hi _ I'm thinking of switching to PowerHome, but I'm wondering if it can meet my needs. Here's one stress test: Can PH cause a button-press on an X-10 controller or INSTEON KPL to trigger multiple X-10 and INSTEON events, some immediate, some delayed by minutes, some delayed by hours.
Example:
I press F7-ON on my MaxiController. Thus turns ON 3 X-10 modules (G8, G10, G12), and 2 insteon ApplianceLincs, and, 20 minutes later, turns OFF G8, G11, and a different ApplianceLinc.
Example:
I press the B button on a Keypadlinc twice in succession. This turns off one X-10 module ,and 1 Appliance Linc, and turns them back on 2 hours later.
Note - I don't want to link any controllers directly to responders. All Insteon Controllers are linked only to the USB Powerlinc (as responder), and responders are linked to the Powerlinc as their controller. (So PH has to provide handshaked communication to the KPL)
Can PH do this?
thanks
/j

Your first example can be done in PH.
I have no KPL's so I can't comment on functions relating to them.
I do initiate actions from SwitchLinc FastOff's, so what you want to do should be possible.

well, thanks for the comments, I'm still hoping someone who does know will post 8-}.
The point is (and I admit that I don't understand this well), i think it's possible to for KPL-sourced commands (group commands?) to not adhere to the handshake protocol.
For example, InHomeFre tells me they can't support making the PLC a responder to KPL keypresses.

Until someone else chimes in, you can do a search here on the forums.
I ran one on "KPL" and "trigger" and found this thread that may tell you what you need.
"press the B button on a Keypadlinc twice in succession"
Can the secondary buttons send Fast On/Offs? If so, this is how PH could catch it.

The answer is YES. PowerHome can do just about any Lighting function with timers reliably. I asking Dave to incorporate UPB functionality so I can have reliable "Get Status and react" checking to ensure the lights successfully turned on in case of PowerLine noise.

Tony and Sharby have you covered. I do basically what you want. I have multiple X-10 controllers and KPLs that interact with both X-10 devices and Insteon at the same time that also trigger other events later.

Beachbum that sounds great. I assume all the 'interactions' are THROUGH Powerhome?

Yes I migrated from X-10 to Insteon overlapping both systems with the same functionality and eventually lessening the amount of pure X-10 control to the point of just monitoring. I now am 100% PH and love it. The transition was smooth but the learning curve was slow for me. The forum has great support people when you need help..

Cool, that's very helpful - so let me ask you this - at roughly what point in your switchover (X% X-10/Y% INSTEON) did the INSTEON suck so much from the powerline that X-10 started to become unreliable?
thanks

So far I haven't had that problem. I have 20 X-10 and 8 Insteon and they are grouped primarily by rooms. In the bedroom all devices are Insteon except the TV and that device is triggered on or off and controls the rest of the house at night time when we go to bed. The bedroom has 1 X-10 Controller and 1 Insteon and they both mirror each other. So whatever I do on one would be the same buttons on the other. My biggest problem was error recovery as my house is noisy as all get out. With PH I was able to build macros that recover from errors automatically with Insteon and if a visual problem is detected with any of the X-10s I have a macro to fix those. PH is unlimited with possibilities.
