Hi, is it normal with no other applications running on a P4 2.4 GHZ computer other than power home and sdm 1.01.138.308 to have alot of activity showing on the sdm general log screen?? About every ten seconds, i get a screen full of ack messages and PLC:event raw messages, that lasts for about 5 seconds. When this happens, my cpu usage is pegged 100% everytime it happens. With only the SDM running, the log screen is quiet, as soon as I open powerhome, things get busy. I dont have any triggers, or macros active, and the powerhome status screen shows no activity as well. Any info if this is normal? if not, how do i fix it?
Thnaks
Brian
After a few hours of sleep, i went back and found controller setup with the background operations. I will experiment with the settings and see how it affects my system.

what you are seeing is the background device polling. that's normal if you have it turned on (I see you found the location for this).the 100% CPU however when this happens is NOT normal. Can you see what program is spiking?

pwrhome.exe is the one, like clockwork every ten seconds(which is the poll rate setting) it spikes for several seconds.

Brian,
Like Cicero explained, it's normal for SDM activity to occur every 10 seconds (or whatever value you've set the "Poll Interval" to). You can turn this off by either setting the "Poll Interval" to 0 (then all background processing such as link creation will be halted) or by unchecking the "Status Scan" option. You'll then only get activity when you create a link or tell PowerHome to perform an Insteon action.
It's also normal to have the CPU spike to 100% during this time on some machines. This has been corrected in the latest alpha and will also be available in the very soon to be released .12 version.
HTH,
Dave.
