since dave sent me alpha9 i've been up and running continuously with no problems. very nice!
i've got a KPL that i'm rma'ing back to smarthome. i assume that PH can restore the links to/from the replacement KPL, but i'm not sure how to go about it. is it as simple as replacing the device address in insteon explorer?
i've searched the archive and didn't find the answer. any tips on doing this?

under the Insteon Explorer, if you scroll to the right, you'll see a column for something along the lines of Swap ID or replace ID. This will take care of it for you. You put the new device ID here and PH will correct all the associated links in other devices and create the proper links in the new KPL. Works great

I've been trying to figure out how this feature works -- does it also replace any triggers/macros? I'm guessing in most cases I'll keep the same ID and it's only the address that changes.
Is there any need to setup new devices with the PLC, or does the swap ID automatically update the PLC as well?

As far as I know it handles all that, but if you have a macro that has the particular address hardcoded, you'd of course have to change that manually. If you've referenced the devices by name, no change necessary then.

Brian,
The easiest way to swap a PLC is to shut PowerHome down and then disconnect the old PLC and connect the new PLC. Start PowerHome and open the Insteon Explorer. In the "Devices" tab, you should see a new entry for your PLC...something like POWERLINC 1 or POWERLINC 2. You'll also have an entry for your old PLC. At this point, I would set the "Poll Interval" to 0 and tab off of the field so the change takes effect and PowerHome stops background processing. Go to the "Setup" tab and download the core application, clear the PLC database, and add ID's to the PLC (min). This will fully prep the PLC for use with PowerHome and your devices. Next, go back to the "Devices" tab and copy down the Insteon address of your new PLC. Now, delete the line that contains the new PLC. Save/Refresh the changes. Scroll down to your "old" PLC and paste in the new PLC address in the "Replace Address" field on your old PLC line. Save/Refresh the changes. Scroll down to the old PLC line again and uncheck the "Disabled" column. Save/Refresh one more time. Set the "Poll Interval" back to the value you normally have (usually 10) and tab off of the field. Very shortly, you should see a bunch of "DELETE LINK" commands and if you scroll the Pending Operations window, you'll see the CREATE LINKS beneath them. Let PowerHome work it's magic and when it's all done, you'll have replaced your old PLC with the new PLC and all your links will be intact.
As Cicero pointed out, if you've referenced the actual Insteon address in any of your programming, you'll need to update that. If you've only reference the ID, then you're good to go.
