Dear PH-specialists,

I have a two problems with the Web Center

1) If I go to the Web Center (Menu->Control->Web Center), I get the dreaded "The webpage cannot be found" (404) - message. But if I go to "http://127.0.0.1:8080/ph-cgi/main" in Firefox, I do get the control center and the other pages.
(I had to change the default port from 80 to 8080, because port 80 was already in use by the router.)

2) I cannot connect to the webserver from another pc. I get the same "The webpage cannot be found" (404) - message. I can connect to the PH-pc over my wireless network, but somehow not to the PH webserver.

In short: On the PH-pc the browser works, but the Web Center doesn't, On the remote pc the browser doesn't work

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

thanks

I've never bothered with the Web Center so I can't talk to that. However, the other sounds like you have a firewall blocking the requests. You may need to change your firewall settings to allow 8080 to pass through.

Viper,
Thanks for your suggestion.

I thought I had set the firewall, but I never added anything about 8080, so that may be it.
Unfortunately I am on the road now, so it will be a week before I can try it out.

Thanks

Jos,

The problem with the Web Center is most likely the wrong default Home address. If you're using 8080, the default as PowerHome is installed is 80. The Web Center can actually be homed to any webpage you like.

To fix this, open the web center and then click on the binoculars icon on the second toolbar (Show). This will show the current URL and allow you to type a new one. I don't remember why I did this, but there are two ways to lock in a new default home URL. You can use the function ph_wcsethome or you can edit the pwrhome.ini file under the [Web Center] section.

Also, be sure to check out all the Web Center functions in the Help file. The nice thing about the web center over plain old IE is that it can be programmatically controlled from within PowerHome.

Concerning connecting to the PowerHome webserver from remote PC's...I'd definately check settings in any personal firewalls, check to make sure that the IP address is correct (most likely 192.168.0.??? on internal networks) and make sure that you've got NAT rules or similar in your router if trying to connect from an external network.

HTH,

Dave.

Dave,

Thanks for your suggestion. The Web Center works fine now.
I haven't had time to play with my firewall yet, but I should get to that tonight.

Thanks for your great support on great software.

Dave, Viper,

You were right. I changed the firewall settings and it works fine now.

Thanks

Case closed.
