Hi - I notice that a lot of my controllers (motion sensor, mini switch, open/close sensor) have a stat of FLAGGED CREATE for "Ctlr Link Status" rather then VERIFIED.

How do I get PH to "Verify" these? I'm thinking this may be the root of my other noted issues.

 Thanks!

Jeff,

FLAGGED CREATE means that PowerHome is trying to actually create the link in the device.

Usually when you've got links stuck on FLAGGED CREATE it means that PowerHome cant communicate with the device. In the Insteon Explorer on the Devices tab,
scan down the list and look at the background color of the ID column as well as the Clear Failed column. A normal background color means all is well, yellow
means a potential problem (having a device checked as disabled will cause a yellow), and red means there is a problem (usually flagged as COM failed).

Any device that has the red background or has a non standard color on the Clear Failed column means that PowerHome tried communicating with the device but
after 5 consecutive failed attempts (controlled by the Max Failures setting at the top), PowerHome flagged the device as COM failed and won't attempt to
communicate (background communications only...all user communication attempts are tried no matter the current failure status) with the device until the
failures are cleared. You can clear the failure by placing a check in the Clear Failed column and saving.

Another thing to check is to make sure that you have "Enable Pending" checked and a Poll Interval > 0.

 Dave.

Oddly - even though I have no operational issues, I see FLAGGED CREATE across my wireless devices (sensors and switches).   Doesn't seem to be a problem, but thought I should report it. I've enabled Pending, with polling interval at 3. But I generally don't enable polling.

Jeff,

You would really only need to enable it when you have links you want to write or if you want to scan a device database. If you've got FLAGGED CREATE and
things seem to be working, you may have manually linked the device already or the link was previously created.

You can *almost* always control a device with a direct command even when it doesnt have a link. Where a link becomes necessary is when you want the status to
be reported by the device or you want to control devices as a group. It *can* even work if say a 1st device is linked to a 2nd device and the 2nd device is
linked to the PLM but the 1st device isnt. In this case, any local control of the second device can send a group cleanup direct to the PLM. But if the 1st
device is locally controlled, you'll never get a group cleanup to the PLM but could possibly hear the group broadcast.

When devices and links are setup in PowerHome, the device address will always be added to the PLM so the PLM can "hear" every device (at the group broadcast
level) and directly control devices (because a link isnt usually necessary for direct control) but you're missing out on the ACK/NAK and two way
communication of the group cleanup command if the remove device does not have a link to the PLM.

 Dave.

Right - what I experienced was that i was responding to a sensor, but there was no handshake, so operation was erratic. I called Smarthome (because all INSTEON should be 2-way) and they looked at my Powerhome log and concluded it wasn't really linked.

I didn't manually link my wireless switches, but they appear to be working 100% of the time so I will leave well enough alone. The knowledge you post is still very useful for "next time" :-) (There's always a next time).

 Best
 /j
