Hi everyone,
I have been using Houselinc 2 with a powerlinc USB
modem for years. Somehow I was convinced to buy a
smarthub and use the HUB for Insteon software on my
Windows PC and iPhone. It was a total disaster.
Nothing worked right and it took LITERALLY hours to
try and program scenes which wouldn't work right
anyway. I'll admit many of my switches and lamplincs
are old, but why didn't they tell me they wouldn't
 work?
In any event, I'm looking to an alternative to
Houselinc which as I'm sure you know isn't supported
and also has many issues which make it less than
 ideal.
 So, my questions:
 1. Can I use the PL USB modem with Powerhome?
 2. Can I use the Smarthub with PH?
 3. Is this software better than my old Houselinc?
 4. Any gotchas I need to know before I take the leap?
 Is it worth changing? etc....

I have about maybe 30 devices, all insteon switches
and lamplincs, ranging from 2 years old to maybe seven
 or 8 or more..

1) Yes
 2) No
 3) Yes, but I use it for MUCH MORE than just Insteon.
 4) There is a decently steep learning curve for this software, but with that come much power and flexibility. A decent portion of your older Insteon switches will likely fail soon... that is what most of mine (80+ devices) have done.

Thanks!
Yes, I have had switches failing recently. One more
question - the older switches seemed to work ok with
Houselinc, but didn't work well with the SMarthub. Does
power-home play well with older Insteon switches?

PowerHome plays well with both in my experience.
