I'm looking at purchasing some Insteon compatible thermostats for my next adventure with PH. It looks like the Venstar thermostats are the ones to get. They have both 1 day and 7 day programmable devices. If I'm controlling everything thru PH I'm assuming it doesn't matter if I get the 1 or 7 day versions? The 1 day are $40 cheaper so I'd obviously rather get that.
Are these devices pretty easy to control from within PH?
Thanks.

I have one of each. The 7 day programmable has an
optional humidity module. The 1 day prog. does not.
Otherwise they both work well with PH. There are several
older threads (a year or more) which give details on how
to set them up with PH. Because I use PH on my Ipod
Touch, Palm Pre, Ipad, and web, I can adjust the temp.
from anywhere and often do.
Just a note on cost. The Venstar thermostat is widely
available and you can buy it many places. Then you can
buy the Insteon add on from Smarthome. When I bought
them it was less expensive to buy that way then to buy
both pieces from Smarthome. Just make sure you get the
same model Venstar as the one Smarthome sells.

Quick question. Smarthome has thermostats on sale this week so I'm thinking about ordering them.
I'm going to be using these thermostats to control just my heating system. My existing thermostats are really generic and only use 2 wires inside them, the red and white wires coming from the furnace. Will the Venstar thermostats work for this? I'm doing more research now but I saw someone write in a review that it didn't work for their 2 wire system which scares me.
Thanks!
****** Update *****
I just talked with Smarthome support and I do need to have 3 wires, the 3rd being a common wire. There is a green wire available and it's hooked up to one of the terminals on the valve in my basement, but I don't know what that terminal is. Need to do some more research.
