Hi:

Ever since I introduced the 2420M motion detectors into my home automation setup, it has been nothing but problems. The basic issue is that they detect motion for no reason at all. I have one mounted in an attached two-car garage to turn on the lights when you go into it from the house. For no reason at all hours of day and night, it detects motion when there is none. What a waste of energy.

I have tried reducing the sensitivity with the jumper, tried different positions, etc. Even swapped it out with version 1.1 (I had 1.0), no good.

Anyone have similar problems? I'm about to chuck them unless I can get them working reliably.

You probably have a better exposure for that hardware by posting the question on the Smarthome forum. The PIR Motion Sensor is looking for changes in heat pattern to determine motion. A hot vehicle, a hot water heater cycling on and off, a pet if they have access to the garage, anything that could present a heat pattern change. I do follow the Smarthome forum and I don't remember seeing false motion as a consistent question but again asking the question there may give you exposure to more people who are using the PIR Motion Sensor.

I think Lee hit the nail on the head. I‘ve tried them outdoors and find anything related to temperature change will trigger it. They seem to be a lot more sensitive outdoors than indoors.
