I'm evaluating using PH software as an automation solution. I was wondering if I could get some insight regarding the remote access functionality. Does it work well? Any issues accessing the web server with a client behind a firewall? Ever used web access with a Blackberry web enabled phone?

I have no experience with Blackberry, but I do use the web control quite a bit. It works on the iPhone, but not well. The pages are designed for a much larger screen. On the computer it works great. I wrote a few pages for it that are sized for the iPhone and I use them quite a bit. Being web based you do have to wait for the pages to load so the performance is largely based on the connection. This isn't much of a problem on a computer but can be on the phone when cell coverage isn't the best.
As for the firewall question I haven't had any problems. You will need to open a port up to the PH computer so that you can get to the web server from the outside.
This has a screen shot and the source code that I am using. There is some code that only allows my phone to control it that I left out. Its not nearly as secure if you tell everyone how to get in.

Nice app. Thanks a lot. That helps. How did you secure the external facing site? SSH?
