Newbie to PH here. I have a small Insteon installation in my house, and want to see how I can use PH to manage it. I have installed the latest version, 1.03.4.8. I set my com port to COM3 (PowerLinc 2414S), started SDM (from the smarthome/device manager folder, ver 1.01.122.278) and checked that it was working with the isresponding command, and it returned "true". But when I start PH, I don't see the connection in the SDM status bar. If I start up inhomefre, for example, I do see the connection. Shouldn't the status bar see PH? Could it be working even though I don't see the connection in the status bar? I don't see any other messages in the SDM either. I ask, because when I go to the Insteon explorer, and turn Auto Discovery on, I don't get any of my devices. Is there anything in the PH setup that may need adjusting? Do I need to tell PH anything about my controller?

Shoot.... Doesn't it figure that five minutes after posting this, I find the Insteon word document that explains everything. **sigh**
I'm sure I'll figure it all out now.

MrGibbage,
Welcome to PowerHome! Yes, the phinsteon.rtf file is a big help (more so in the last version) but is a little dated in 1.03.4.8 due to the new Insteon Explorer. In case you havent figured it out yet, the first thing you must do is open the PowerHome Explorer, go to Setup|Controllers and create an Insteon DM Controller. Reinitialize and the Insteon Explorer should "wake up".
Let me know if you have any other questions or problems,
Dave.

I am new to both PH and Insteon. PH is not recognizing my powerlinc USB eventhough the Smarthome timer and mControl softwares both do. Any Ideas? (I did follow the above directions). Thanks!

I've been using PH for a few days now, and for the most part, I am really liking it. I would say that if I was going to offer some criticism, it would be that somehow you should unify the PH explorer and Insteon explorer. I don't yet intuitively know when I should look to one or the other for a particular setting. You probably already know this, as I know that the Insteon explorer is relatively new. I think I'll play with it a little more though, and will probably register it pretty soon.

When you say that it does'nt recognize your PLC what do you mean exactly? Powerhome does not automatically set up your PLC for you. As stated above you must go into controllers and create a new controller manually. If you have further problems I'll be more than happy to meet you on an IM somewhere and step you through it.

Ebowman,
Did you ever get PowerHome to recognize the PLC? Let me know if you're still having problems.
Dave.
