Hello everyone. I am brandnew to these forums(as you can see). I am building a new home, and I am just about to embark upon home automation. I should be getting my elk m1 and goodies by the end of this week!!

Anyways, I have yet to decide upon a lighting protocol (insteon vs. upb). THis is why I am interested in testing powerhome. I have spoken with tonyno and spanky(from ELK) and they spoke to me about the interface between the elk m1 and powerhome that is currently being finished. I was wondering if it would be possible to get in on the beta testing of this/and or when it is scheduled to be released?

I believe that if this functionality does what it claims, INSTEON may finally be a viable option for ELK users. Thanks!

ph0n33z,

Welcome to PowerHome!

Im working hard on the Elk M1 Insteon utility. The first thing that will be released is a utility that works with PowerHome to copy parts of the Insteon database into the Elk M1XSP. This will eliminate the need to do the tap-linking into the Elk and should simplify using Insteon with the Elk. This util requires a firmware upgrade to the M1XSP and Elk is busy working on their end as well. I would expect to see something first part of next week.

Keep in mind though that this does not actually interface PowerHome to the Elk yet. That functionality (using the Elk as a PowerHome connected controller) is trying to be worked into the next beta version. Hopefully that won't be too much longer.

Dave.

All,

Elk has finished their testing and will be posting the firmware upgrade for the M1XSP to their website. Ive got a few more changes to make to the utility based upon their feedback and will post the utility to the download section this weekend.

Dave--

I'd also like to say I'm excited to hear what you are planning for the Elk!

Are you planning for PH to be aware Elk events (motion detectors triggering, etc.)?

Mike

All,

I was delayed in getting the changes to the PowerHome Elk to Insteon Utility due to a harddrive mishap. However, Elk has released the firmware and the last beta works pretty well so Im posting a link to it here: http://www.power-home.com/download/elkinsteon.exe

I will get an upgraded version out as soon as I can but for those ready to get Insteon devices loaded into the M1XSP now, this should greatly simplify the process.

Just download the utility and copy it to the PowerHome directory. The current version requires PowerHome, but the next release will be able to run totally standalone (remember, this is just a utility to programmatically add Insteon devices to the M1XSP and does not include any linking capabilities on it's own. PowerHome is still required for this).

Mike,

Im working on the next beta to include support for the Elk as a controller. This would include PowerHome being able to turn on lights using the default Elk lighting controller as well as switch relays. PowerHome will also be able to respond to the Elk's inputs and fire triggers, etc.

Dave.

I got an elk... thanks to AO no shipping deal and CT getting 10% it helped make up my mind... it's not as big as I expected... and no antlers I guess it must be a young one .... I need to get a few more items first (serial plc and apdapter card) but soon I'll need the new beta :)
