Dave!

Powerhome doesn't receive incoming X10 communications...
The CM11A sends them to the Com-Port, I checked this using Activehome Communications Viewer but Nothing is detected by Powerhome... The Port-settings are all at default settings, and ComPort2 is used by my touchscreen controler.

Outgoing X10 communications are slow, it takes a command about 7 seconds to execute...

any idea what is wrong here?

small Update:

disabled Touchscreen, Modem in Windows by uninstalling: Nothing helped... tried the old version and also there was no incoming communication possible. Tried another Comport for the CM11a to run on and also there was no Incoming Communication Possible...

I tried erasing the CM11A with the activehome software which worked, transmission tests succeeded, Interface-clock can be read normally by the activehome software...

I am puzzled here... what is wrong? A faulty CM11a???

Peter

Peter,

Make sure that ActiveHome is totally shutdown before launching PowerHome. PowerHome needs exclusive control and cannot share the CM11A with any other program. When launching ActiveHome and shutting it down, it usually leaves an X10 process running that you have to manually shutdown from within the Processes tab of the task manager.

I ran Activehome from my laptop which is not my PH-server... what puzzels me the most is when I ran version 4.4m there was nothing incoming as well...

A new CM11 costs about $40,- so that would not be an isue...

Yes, all's checked but my triggers don't fire as well, when I shut down the outside shutters front and back from my RF remote control nothing is seen in PH... Nothing...
I even checked the trigger of my firealarm by blowing smoke into the chamber of the detector...the Alarm went off but the triggers in PH... no dice....

Wait a second... the CM11 works with your laptop but not your PH server? Have you tried PH on your laptop? Does it work there? Do you ave another serial device to check your serial port on the PC?

I could only see that the CM11 sends incoming data on its serial port, not actually see the decoded Data..

I am going to attempt this in the next few days... hopefully it is the CM11 and not the PC which runs my PH...

Yes, I did:
Touchscreen was on COM1
CM11 on COM2

and switched:
Uninstall Touchscreen
CM11 on COM1

Result was the same... No incom. Comm. and Outgoing extremely slow..

Update:

I just installed a trial version of PH on this laptop and also here: No incoming Communications when X10 commands are sent on the powerline...

btw: outgoing X10 commands from the trial-powerhome evenly slow as on my Main PH-Server...

is it safe to asume that there is a faulty CM11???

Peter,

Not yet!! You say that the CM11A can send X10, albeit at a very slow rate. This very indicative of continuous X10 noise on the powerline.

With a lot of noise on the powerline, the CM11A will be unable to receive commands. Also, it will be very slow in sending since the CM11A waits until it hears that the line is clear.

Since you've got PH and the CM11A hooked to your laptop. I would at least take an RR501 and a palmpad and go to your friend or neighbors house and see if PowerHome and the CM11A can pick up on the signal. If it works there, then you've got the task of trying to isolate what in your home is blocking X10. If it doesnt work, then I would probably get a new CM11A.

Dave.

Dave, please explain then why all my X10-devices react instantly when I use an RF-remote control which sends its commands to the powerline like a TM13 or a powerline transmitter like an SM10... this is most confusing...

Alternative thought...

Are you using a bridge on the electric lines that could have failed? If the powerline transmitter is on one side and the CM11A on the other...it could cause this result.

No, there is no bridge in use and I don't use a multifase HVAC-system. The only thing I can think of is what Dave told me about noise on the powerline but since I can not only use PH to send powerlinecommands but also a RF-Controller that uses a TM13 to put these on the powerline AND I can use an SM10 (universal PL-transmitter) and this all goes well and reacts instantly... or that infact my CM11 is faulty....

I've already disconnected all X10-switches and tried one by one but that doesn't help either...

Peter,

Your CM11A could very well be faulty. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the RF transmitters just blast away the X10 signal on the powerline and dont wait for the line to be clear. The CM11A is more polite and listens first. One thing about the CM11A too is that if it starts to send a command but "hears" another command before completing, it will abort the send in favor of the receive. A retry will then go to send again but if another receive comes in, the send will again be aborted and the receive will get priority.

However, if PowerHome is not showing any incoming X10 activity (and it's unlikely that there would be that much activity) then it's possible that the CM11A is toast. I assume this all used to work fine and then one day it just stopped responding?

Yes, just all of a sudden, no incoming is detected... No matter what I do, simply nothing's happening. I can control my full system from an RF-Based Remote together with a TM13/TM751 and this all works fine... It's just that I can no longer receive any X10 and thus are all my triggers "worthless"...

I even disconnected the CM11a from the mains(HVAC) for a few hours and took the battries out... No dice...

Peter,

It sounds as if it may really be toast. The fact that the X10 network works just fine with the manual RF remotes coupled with it just not working out of the blue would seem to indicate a hardware failure. I would hate for you to order up a new CM11A though and it not fix your problem.

I reread the thread from the beginning. At first it sounded as if the CM11A worked OK on your laptop using ActiveHome but then after further reading I see that you loaded a trial of PowerHome (fresh install...no code to muck up the system) and still not working. No receiving and very slow to send. Im assuming that no incoming X10 is showing in the eventlog as well.

Based upon this, I would probably go ahead and try another CM11A (unless you can take the laptop with the trial PowerHome over to a different house just to completely rule out some sort of "noise" issue).

Dave.

Got a spare CM11a and comm. is possible but there is more going on here... I think this was a combination of problems:

the Spare CM11 decodes but only decodes G7, no matter what is send through the powerline, PH only decodes this as G7 This is strange.... I am thinking this is a Windows problem that has to do with the ports...

currently I have the comport set to 4800 baud, 8,1,0 with Xon/Xoff transport and the FiFo disabled... when changing this to default, nothing changes in regards to the decoding...

What in the name of beelzebup is going on here!!!!
