Hi Dave and All:
I have had an interesting problem come up recently.
Every once in a while, i'd say 2 weeks give or take the
maximum heat setting in PH jumps up to 117 Celcius. It
seems to happen at night, and I wake up and the house is
around 28 or 29 and i'm freaking sweating my pants off.
To make it even more awesome, the thermostat is not
responding. It will let me lower the maximum
temperature, but not raise it (on the device itself). I
have to slog down to the fuse box and kill the breaker
to the furnace. Then change the min temperature and
everything is back to normal.
So i'm not sure this is a PH issue but I thought I would
start the investigation here, and see if anyone else has
encountered it.
I'm using a 2441V and a Venstar T1900 Thermostat if that
makes a difference.

Pretty sure it wouldnt be PowerHome. Ive had a similar
issue with my upstairs thermostat (but not my
downstairs thermostat) where the setpoints where just
all on their "change". It got so bad, that I setup
triggers to detect the change and email me as well as
change them back to the values they should be. It
happens on average once or twice a week on the
upstairs. Downstairs has been solid and Ive never had
a problem.
I have the same 2441V and Venstar for both my
thermostats. One test that I'd like to perform is
determine if its the 2441V or the Venstar thats the
problem but I cant be without my thermostat control.
My plan would be to just pull the 2441V from the
thermostat and manually monitor the Venstar to see if
it still changes. I was thinking I could also "switch"
my 2441V's and see if the problem moves to the
downstair stat. Just havent had a chance to
reconfigure everything (links and all) to perform this
test.
FYI, my problem is the opposite of yours. I have the
upstairs always on cooling and set to 77 to keep my
equipment cool. When it goes "south", the cool
setpoint is usually set to 32 (the other day it was
set to 0) or some other super low number. Ive never
had to poweroff though to change it back. Since you
have to do this, that sounds more like a problem with
the thermostat itself rather than anything Insteon.

I am having exactly the problem the two of you had with the same equipment. Mine is more likely to go nuts on cool rather than heat but both have occured. I tried removing the 2441V and the problem continues so I think the problem is with the Venstar. I would replace the Venstar but the Insteon-enabled thermostat from Smarthome can not control the humidifier needed in Southern California.
I have built a macro that executes every time the 2441V reports a temperature change and checks the heat and cool setpoints and resets them to reasonable values when they fall out of a proper range. This 'guardrail macro' sends me an email and I probably get one or two a day.

Terry,
Glad to hear we're not the only ones and I agree with
you that I think it is the Venstar rather than the
2441V (still havent gotten a chance to swap 2441V's to
see if the problem moves or stays).
Great minds think alike. I get the email notification
and my macro resets the tstat to the values they
should be. Mine has been pretty good lately. Ive gone
probably 3 weeks without having an email.

Hi Dave:
Just an update to let you know where I am in the process.
I got tired of waking up to 28C, the issue was happening
almost daily. It seemed to be regressing.
I unplugged the 2441V from the thermostat and the issue
has stopped.
I'll try another 2441, whichever format they are selling
these days and see how that goes.

Mike,
Keep us posted when you get a new 2441V. Im wondering if
SmartHome will replace it under warranty.

Hey Dave, quick update still no bad behavior from the
thermostat, i haven't checked the warranty but the thing
is 3 or 4 years old so I can't see it happening. I'll
order one this week.

I would still check with SmartHome. They replaced a number of switches that Im pretty sure were at least 5 years old for me.
