I've been purchasing a number of I2CS devices lately,
notably a FanLinc and a KeypadLinc to control it. I
thought maybe that HomeLinc would allow me to get some of
the programming done on the Keypad before the arrival of
 the new PH version.

So, in messing around with it I added most of my devices
to HL, but didn't change anything. Then, on one keypad
(an old one that was programmed with PH) I adjusted the
brightness from HL and I somehow broke the links and
button config. I assume that when HL wrote to it that's
what messed it up. But I wouldn't think that would
affect the links...but oh, did it ever.

So I removed it from HL and tried to fix the button
config with PH. But it seems like links that I didn't
think should be changed suddenly didn't work. I ended up
removing all the links and re-adding them again with PH
and everything works as it should.

I've seen stuff about peek/poke stuff on here, so I'm
wondering if that's what happened. If programming with
HL and PH (different PLMs for what it's worth) on the
 same device a no no?

An I2CS device will not respond to a PLM it has not been linked with. Part of the I2CS protocol changes. The physical link records are not changed with I2CS. Only that an I2CS device will not respond to a PLM that has not been linked with it. Part of the security of I2CS that prevents someone from manipulating devices using an unknown PLM. AN I2CS device will respond to two PLMs that have been linked with the respective device.

Perhaps answer is a little redundant but tried to cover what I thought might be follow up questions.

Not that it matters, after a little more testing this is
what I have discovered...on *SOME* KPLs, I had a variety
of inter button linking. That is say, button 8 might be
all off and would turn off the buttons 2, 3 and 4. There
there also links associated to those other buttons. All
created in PH. When I edited those KPLs in Home Link it
killed some of the interbutton linking. It also jacked
up some of the links. PH still shows them (of course, as
that's PH's internal DB) but when you verify them they
aren't there. The only way to fix them seems to be to
remove them and then recreate them. I've tested and I
can re-create the problem, but only on some KPLs. The
really old KPLs seem to be fine. It's the firmware that
allows you to alter the LED brightness that's an issue.

Anywho, the net of what I've discovered is that HL sucks
and I really want the newer I2CS version of PH.
