How do I clear the Insteon log? I installed a bunch of
filters today and I want to reset everything so I can see
what the improvement is. I'm talking about the "Reports"
tab--I want them all to reset to zero.

Use the ph_trimeventlog(1) function. Then run phupg utility to physically reduce the size of the db file. I don't think you can completely erase the log but it can be reduced to a single day.
Edit: I did not see your edit until I posted. Don't think this is what you are looking for.

So let's say that you're a semi-moron like me and in the process of doing an upgrade, you realize that your ph_trimeventlog(1) event is actually turned off....and has been for well over a year....and now you have a 1.09GB database, so you manually go in and run the function......how long should it take? I've been waiting for a half hour for the function to come back from "not responding". Should I keep waiting or cut bait, or will doing so cause some sort of DB corruption that's insurmountable...?
AUGH!

No guts no glory. I’d cut and retry after I check the hopefully new size.

syonker,
Looks like the eventlog is giving you problems. Between this thread and the eventlog thread, it sounds like you've tried to trim the eventlog and use the DB upgrade utility, etc.
Best thing to do is start over with the backup database that should have been made when you first attempted to use the database upgrade utility. You should be able to use the datetime stamp to determine the correct file. Your current file is probably corrupted from the SQL and the DB size so your DB upgrade backup is your best bet.
If you're on 2.1.4 or are upgrading to 2.1.4, download the latest DB upgrade utility from here: http://www.power-home.com/download/phupg.exe. This version has a checkbox which will allow you to upgrade/rebuild your database and erase your logs. What actually happens is that the logs dont get copied into the new DB (the DB is too big to erase) so this should get you going.
Let me know how it goes.
Dave.

Dave - BINGO! That did the trick.
I was upgrading from 2.1.0b to 2.1.2b (first) then to 2.1.4b.
So I had to get the backup of 2.1.0b's DB, import it to the 2.1.2b install, then bring in the phupg.exe file you referenced above. Then was able to trim out the DB, and finally did the copy of the 2.1.4b files.
Strangely, my PLM controller COM port changed from COM5 to COM6 (for those with this problem, you have to go into the Windows Device Manager, and look up the port - mine changed to COM6). Assign it to the matching port in PowerHome, and Presto!
No back to testing with the Android PowerHome Connector that Skip is working on with v2.1.4b. Thanks so much Dave!
