Hi,
I am just evaluating PH with a view to starting my automation project, and after spending the day playing, and reading through the forum the possibilities look very exciting!
Two things that have been troubling me:
First, I live in the UK, and I am struggling to identify a suitable controller to work with our 230v power sockets. Can anyone recommend a suitable item to me. I was looking at X10, mainly because they are the only modules I can find they sell over here, but I do undertand they can be problematic, so are there any other types I should consider that operate well with PH? I was also wanting it to work with USB as I don’t have any serial ports on my computers.
Second, I am having problems with the Voice recognition in PH (version 2.1b). I have installed the software (on trial I must add), installed the Msspchapi.exe file, followed by the Msttsl.exe and Mscsrgl.exe. I then select enable VR in the PowerHome Explorer. When I restart powerhome, I get the following error message:
“An error occurred while attempting to initialize the voice recognition engine. Voice Recognition will not be active.”
TSS works fine, and I have tried re-installing everything to check I had done it correct and i still get the same error. I am running Window Vista if that makes any difference?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
Welcome to PowerHome!
I believe there was a 230 volt version of the CM11A called a CK11. It is a serial device however so you would need a USB to serial adaptor. There may be other 230 volt X10 controllers but I would have to defer to others on this.
It sounds as if you've done everything right for setting up VR and TTS so Im suspecting that it may have something to do with Vista. VR is something I did not test before I downgraded my Vista back to XP.
I did play with loading PowerHome on Vista and I achieved the best results using the steps below:
Install in c:\powerhome as an administrator
pwrhome.exe should not be in XP compatibility mode and should not be run as administrator. UAC can be enabled.
sdm3.exe should have properties set for ALL USERS to run in XP compatibility mode.
May have to manually launch PowerHome as administrator a couple of times before its able to successfully launch sdm3.exe without errors.
Try uninstalling PowerHome from the default location (after uninstall, manually delete the c:\program files\powerhome subdirectory...save the pwrhome.db and pwrhome.ini files if you've done alot of configuration) and reinstall using the steps above. Then lets see what happens with the VR.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your quick response!
I haven’t been able to locate a CK11 yet, but I will keep looking! If any body else has spotted one of these anywhere, could you drop me a link?
Ok, I removed powerhome from my computer, reinstalled as Administrator. Changed compatability of sdm3.exe and then ran PH.
It still comes up with the same error, however if I run powerhome as administrator, it works perfectly! I do keep getting the little vista message box pop up everytime I start PH asking if I am sure I want to run the program etc, but I can cope with that.
Is running it as Admin going to cause me any problems in the long run?
Thank you for your time!
Chris

Also, Automated Outlet converts UPB modules for use overseas.
