I've been fighting with this for 2 nights, and had it resolved....but that
didn't last. For my 2414S...I've covered all of the basics:
   -getport=COM1 (verified correct port)
   -verified all cables/connections
   -removed/reinstalled/restarted PH numerous times
-shutdown and restartedsdm3 and timer software numerous times
   -Tried SDM3 235 and 308... 235 worked!   isresponding=TRUE!!! Then I
added my ELKM1G ethernet to PowerHome, and nothing has worked
since. unresponsive...isresponding=False. Verified EVERYTHING was the
same as my short success when isresponding=true, but have had no
success since then.

   I have (2) 2414S's and 3 computers, and cannot get isresponding=true
with any.

Check Setup-Controllers and select Insteon DM and uncheck any other controllers you may have and see what that does. Don’t forget to Reinit.

Thanks for the reply. Yesterday after adding the ELKM1G (when the
2414S became unresponsive) I unchecked the ELKM1G in PH controllers.
When that did not restore isresponding=true, I completely removed the
ELKM1G from PH's controllers. Following each change, I restarted
PH, verified SDM3.exe was not running, and unplugged and restarted the
2414S.

"Insteon DM" is currently the only setup controller. I have not made any
changes to the "Insteon DM" controller, since it was working yesterday.

Is there anything I am missing?

You might try starting SDM3 before PH and check it there. You can type DM in the window of SDM3 then issue commands like isresponding.

Thanks again. I have been working directly from SDM3 (not PH). The one
time I had success (isresponding=true), I switched to PH, and it worked fine
from there too. I have since been getting =false thru both PH and SDM3
interfaces. getport is correctly set in both PH and SDM3.

So that eliminates PH. The only thing common between 3 computers and 2 PLCs is the cable and the power source. I’m sure you have done a hard reset on the PLC.

Yes..I have rebooted the PC (win2k Adv svr) many times.   I do not need a
serial adapter with that PC (and I had success with it briefly). I just made
a new serial cable....still no luck.

Serial (PC)    PH(RJ45)
1
2 --------------1
3 --------------8
4
5--------------7
6
7
8
9

Also, I moved outlets much further from the PC. Could this be a registry
issue (with the port)?

I’m hedging on the cable. If you load SDM by itself I would think that takes care of the registry problem as that has been the fix in the past. I meant hard reset the PLC not PC. Can’t help you with the cable breakout…

I'm up and running now .... on my old PLC. I swapped to my old PLC (again)
and my old cable (again), using SDM3235 (again), but this time it works! I
installed and setup all of my newest switches (this time) BEFORE trying to
add the ELK. I still don't know why neither would work before. I'm going
hard reset the newer PLC, in hope that it will also work. Thanks for all your
help.
