I am switching from my PLC to a PLM... I have followed directions given out on this forum to convert. But I can not get PH to connect to my PLM. I have defined it in Exlorer-setup-contollers on the correct COM PORT. I reinitialize and check the HELP menu for connection... it never connects... what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Are you on the Alpha version?

Assuuming you are, how about trying different COM
ports?

Also, reinitialize or close/open PH after each try.

HTH.

I am on Alpha 7 or at least the PLM shows up as an option... how do tell for sure.

I swapped COM ports both on the computer and in the PLM settings.

I did reinitialize after each time.

Nothing seemed to do the trick.

Should it be as simple as setting up the controller in PH and plugging the devide into the wall and computer for it to recognize? Thanks.

You're running the alpha if PLM shows up as an option.

As I recall I had to disable the PLC in the Insteon
Explorer Device tab (check disable). But I think the
PLM Controller automatically showed up even before that.
If you don't see the PLM listed in the device tab, I
would think it's a Com issue with the PC and not a PH
issue.

Just in case you missed this post from Dave.

"The method I used follows:

1. Define the PLM controller. Set the port, etc. and set
it active. Set the Insteon SDM controller inactive.
Physically plug everything in. Reinitialize.

2. Open the Insteon Explorer. PowerHome should have
auto-detected the PLM and created a device for the PLM
called PLMCTLR1.

3. Since I wasnt sure if I wanted to go back and forth
between the PLM and the PLC, I didnt want to just do a
replace device. But I wanted the PLM to do everything
that the PLC used to do so I just copied the PLC links.
I did this by opening the Insteon Explorer and
navigating to the "Links" tab. I made the POWERLINC1 the
current device and highlighted ALL of the controller
links and ALL of the responder links. I then clicked on
the "Copy" text and declined to include the current
device as a responder.

4. Next, make the PLMCTLR1 the current device in the
Links screen. Click on the "Paste" text and all of the
PLC links will be copied to the PLM. Click "Save" and
let'er rip. When complete, you should have every link
that the PLC had just the same in the PLM. Later, when
you feel that you no longer need the PLC, you can go
back into the links screen, bring up the POWERLINC1
device and delete all of it's controller and responder
links.

Hope this helps,

Dave. "

I saw this post from Dave and from the sounds of it the PLM should auto detect and it doesn't. I did disable the PLC which was running on COM 2... plugged the PLM directly into the same COM 2 port and nothing... doesn't seem to auto detect. I will try again tomorrow.

After my PLC stopped working today... I thought I would try and get my PLM to work again. I think I figured out why PH will not connect to my PLM. For the first time I noticed in the logs that it said "The PLM controller requires a minimum firmware of 63. Your firmware version is 52."

Is there a way to upgrade the firmware or do I just need to by a new PLM? Thank you.

That’s real interesting because I run 52 and I’m not getting the message. I think Tony also runs the same firmware version. I’ll let him chime in on his. My PLM is about 10 months old. There is no way to upgrade the firmware in the field, I’m aware of. Business decision on SmartHome’s part.
