Suddenly my computer no longer sees the PLC. The SDM is returning "isresponding command failed," and the light on the side of the PLC is no longer on.

I have tried the reset process for the PLC (unplug, wait 10s, plug back in while holding the sec button for 10s), but the light goes off as soon as I let go of the set button.

I tried adding the reg file provided here but that didn't help.

Should I assume that the PLC has decided to die, or are there other troubleshooting steps? (I have gone into the SDM, typed 'DM' then typed 'isresponding' and I get a false result.)

If it is dead and I have to buy a new device, what's the deal these days re: the PLC vs. the, uh, other option. I haven't explored the other option yet so I don't know anything about it. I am fully Insteon and fully PowerHome....

Thanks for any thoughts

So I found one piece of encouraging information: if I unplug the USB cable while everything is plugged in and turned on, the SDM shows "usbunplugged" followed by some numbers. And then when I plug it back in it says "usbarrival" followed by more numbers and "Smarthome Smarthome Powerlinc USB E,"

I plan to give Smarthome a call this morning as soon as they are open, but any thoughts would still be appreciated.

Thanks

I found the PLC to so unreliable I had 2.    Now I run with the PLM stay up and run much faster.    Sounds like yours went South…

Okay, if that's true (though I'd love someone to tell me the magic trick to get the PLC working again since everything is now offline)...

From what I've read it seems that the PLM is the better option than getting a new PLC.

Are there downsides at this moment in time to going with the PLM, as pertains to PH versions and/or any other consideration? I'd rather not buy two different devices for testing/playing purposes - I'd prefer just to buy whatever I need, and install it and get my PH system back up and running my house. From beta versions to copying PLC links to the PLM rather than just replacing them, my worry is that things aren't 100% "go" for the PLM. But I'd love to hear otherwise, and that I should just go for a new PLM and not look back...

As long you are on the latest Beta with the latest Alpha you are rock solid with the PLM. When you install the PLM use this link to make a smooth conversion.

Well, the PLM is on its way (as well as a free replacement PLC for backup purposes. It arrives hopefully next Thursday, which gives me a week to understand what the hell is meant by "on the latest Beta with the latest Alpha" and get myself to that state. ;)

Thanks!

Selfish question (because I doubt anyone (ie hope no one) is in this particular situation:

The new PLM hasn't arrived yet, but should tomorrow. In anticipation of that moment, I have already gone ahead and installed the Alpha version of PH so that I'd be able to have PLM support.

With the release of the new Beta, what's the best way to proceed? Should I leave the Alpha in place and use it to configure the new PLM when it arrives, then upgrade to the V2, or should I upgrade to V2 now? My concern with the latter approach is that if I upgrade now and launch V2, it won't be able to find any controller (since I don't have any at the moment) and that could cause problems.

Thanks for any guidance...

If it was me I would let stand with Alpha and install the PLM. Then go to V2. Don’t fix what’s not broke. My 2 cents…
