I am using PH to manage my insteon devices in conjunction with an Elk. From time to time the Elk loses its ability to control certain Insteon devices. When it does I go re-download my Insteon data from PH into the Elk serial expander using my laptop and all is well again.

In the past I have had to install PH on my laptop, and copy the database from my HA computer. I was wondering if there was a way to connect the laptop to the Elk serial port, and then use some sort of software to redirect the com port from the laptop over my ethernet network to my HA PC so that I could do the download directly from the HA PCs database and not have to do a second install of the software. I investigated the HW_VSP program that some people had used in the past to connect to an Elk, but it does not seem to be able to redirect the physical port on my laptop.

Has anyone pulled off what I am trying to accomplish?

Also, any ideas why the Elk needs to be reprogrammed from time to time? I have noted that it tends to happen after I have done some reprogramming of my insteon devices using PH, possibly to include adding a device to a group on the Elk's PLC.
