First time PH user... Looks cool. I can't get past one error though and I'm hoping someone can help. I've done a lot of searching through the forums and haven't found a solution yet.

I see the following consistently: "SmartHome Device Manager ISRESPONDING command failed for Insteon PLC INSTEON CONTROLLER. Attempting to restart controller..."

I've tried starting SDM3.EXE from within \Program Files\PowerHome\SmartHome\Device Manager\. I've tried switching between 235 and 308 using the included batch file. I've tried uninstalling\reinstalling.

SDM seems to work on its own b/c when I run the exe manually, click on the icon, type 'DM', then type 'isresponding' it says PLC:isresponding:True.

Other apps that use SDM, like Device Controller, work fine.

I'm running PH 1.03.4.12 on Vista.

Any suggestions?

Jared,

Welcome to PowerHome!!

The fact that you got PowerHome to install on Vista is interesting since most users have been unsuccessful. I know of only one other user who was successful in getting this to work on Vista and it involved having to first get the SDM properly configured using HouseLinc.

Based upon this one users experience and the fact that other programs are able to work with the SDM, Im confident that we can get PowerHome working as well. Would it be possible for me to connect into your machine using VNC and try to work with you on getting this to work? If so, send me an email and we'll work out the details.

Thanks,

Dave.

Jared,

Excellent news! I got your email and hopefully we'll get this fixed. Also, you may want to check towards the end of this thread http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=970&TPN= 3. Brian (bhlonewolf) has made some excellent progress and was successful in getting the SDM and PowerHome working on Vista.

Dave.

I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it, but turning UAC ON actually fixed my problem. Dave VNC'ed into my machine and both the ISRESPONDING error mentioned above and the "script server: -2" error I was also seeing went away when I turned it back on.

I had disabled it a while back.

Dave, to confirm the theory I turned UAC off, rebooted and the problems came back. Turned it back on, rebooted and then went away again.

I'm not running in compatability mode.

ALL TOGETHER NOW ....

WE HATE UAC hehehe

I haven't switched to Vista and stories like this concerning UAC are one of the main reasons I haven't, not to mention just various incompatibility issues.

Glad you got it working. Amazing that turning it ON fixed it since most people, to get things to work, have to turn it off.

Well, like I said in another post, I don't think it's UAC -- I think UAC is providing transparency to the problem.

JaredM,

Just out of curiosity, which flavor of VNC are you using on Vista? I was about to pick one to install, but it looks like a lot of them are having problems with vista.

Thanks, Cris

I just used the one Dave links to at the bottom of PH homepage. He was controlling my machine and it seemed to work OK except for being very laggy -- like 5s.

Well, I used the HKLM to HKCU registry fix posted a couple days ago by bhlonewolf which got me past the -2 error with Vista but now I have this problem.

The DM sees my device on USB4, if I unplug it and plug it back in the DM logs that it detected the Smarthome USB by echoing:

(usbarrival=4287,4,1024,SmartHome,SmartHome PowerLinc USB E,)

However when I add it as a Controller I start getting the "SmarthHome Device manager ISRESPONDING command failed for Insteon PLC smarthomeUSB. Attempting to restart controller...

Any idea? 1 step closer!

When I had this problem it was the ISRESPONDING in the SDM windows responds false. I then type SENDHARDRESET and then reload CORE APPS. Good luck...

Loaded Powerhome, started the device manager and typed SENDHARDRESET, it seemed to work. Reloaded PowerHome, still having the ISRESPONDING error.

Psychoholica,

Have you tried with UAC On? This is the exact problems we were having with Jared's Vista install and the problem went away once we turned UAC on.

Let me know,

Dave.

Woo Hoo,
up and running with Vista. but UAC has to be one...ew! Hopefully a fix for this is easy, the UAC right now is a terrible feature in Vista.
Thanks, now to finally test this stuff out!

Where exactly do you turn UAC on? I'm getting the same exact problem, I ran the registry fix, did a reinstall of Powerhome and restored my database, Powerhome comes right up, the SDm see's my device, but Powerhome gives me "SmarthHome Device manager ISRESPONDING command failed for Insteon PLC smarthomeUSB. Attempting to restart controller"

Anyhelp would be appreciated!

Thanks

Jeremy, try
   Start
   Control Panel
   Classic View
   User Accounts
You'll see an option to Turn User Account Control on or off.

Just to be sure, did you reboot after turning UAC on? Also, have you tried some other stuff on this thread (hard reset, reload core apps)?

Yup..
I'm running with UAC on now, I've applied the regstry fix, I tried running in compatability mode and I've tried running as an administrator - I've also tried a hard reset and a reload of the apps - but I'm still getting the ISRESPONDING message..

Curious, does ISRESPONDING work from SDM without loading PH?
