Whats up guys,
Ive been looking for a way to automate my house and finally found the solution, PowerHome. I have read through everything about PowerHome and seems perfect i just want to make sure i have the installion concept right. My first project since i am new is to automate all the lights in the house or most of them. I have a touchscreen computer i would install PowerHome on and place on a wall. Would i need to buy a INSTEON PowerLinc Controller, USBfor each light? Or is there any easier way to do this?
Thanks ahead of time

Hi there,
Nope, that would certainly be quite expensive!
You do need a single PLC, and it essentially acts as a bridge between the PC and the devices. Each device needs to be Insteon-capable (or X10), such as a Switchlinc or ApplianceLinc.

When it comes to Insteon, the devices you choose really depend on the application. You can replace a standard wall switch with either a dimmer or relay (SwitchLinc or ToggleLincs have both dimmers and relays available), you can use a lamplinc that lets you plug in a standard floor lamp, keypadlinc for multiple buttons, etc. So, I'd say it depends on the application.

so what i could do is buy one of those INSTEON PowerLinc Controller(USB) that would connect with the touchscreen(with PowerHome) and then buy multiple SwitchLinc's like THESE that would receive commands from the INSTEON PowerLinc Controller(USB?

Yeah, you could do that -- but my advice would be to go insteon and not x-10 -- if you look at the stats on that item, it's x-10 compatible. Powerhome and the PLC you referenced will do both Insteon and x-10, but if you're starting from scratch, I'd go insteon.

I suggest you visit Martin at automatedoutlet.com. They also still have some of the lower-cost Icon line of Insteon plug-in modules.
