I can't seem to create links for either the Lamplinc or Icon Appliance link in the PLC Controller window. Everything else links fine.

Anyone?

Lamplinc and Appliancelinc modules can only act as responders. They cannot control other devices.

Thanks,

Does that effect powerhomes awareness of those devices?
Or am I not understanding the purpose of making all the insteon devices controllers of the PLC in Powerhomes Insteon Explorer Links?

The way I understand it PH keeps track two ways.

1. It updates the database record for a device each time a device transmits that it has changed status.

2. It polls the status of devices. Then updates the database to reflect any changes.

Lamplincs and Appliancelincs don't report their status when controlled locally, so in this case PH doesn't know their status until it polls them. If you have a lot of devices this can take quite some time.

Jbbtex is correct...LampLincs and ApplianceLincs cannot be linked as controllers...only responders. However, there is one small error. Standard SmartHome Insteon devices never transmit when they have changed status (you can think of it this way, but it's not what actually happens).

What happens is that a device that is linked as a controller of another device, will send a command to the remote device in an attempt to "control" the remote device. First as a group broadcast command followed by a group cleanup command. So if you have a SwitchLinc that is not linked as a controller of any device, then it will never send an Insteon signal when it is switched manually. If you take that same switch and link it as a controller of another Insteon device (or the PLC), then it will transmit a command in an attempt to control. PowerHome will then *see* this command and *know* that the device has been locally controlled and update status accordingly.

This is why LampLincs and ApplianceLincs will never send an Insteon command when controlled locally (at least the current devices...the spec does allow for a future "controlled locally" command).
PowerHome will only pick up on a manual LampLinc or ApplianceLinc change via status polling which Jbbtex was correct in saying that it may take a few minutes to work it's way around if you've got a few Insteon devices.

HTH,

Dave.
