For those of you that have not seen this elsewhere (techmall Cocoontech etc), Smarthome is offer a trade in program for the old RF SignalLinc's. See it here.
I am not too keen on the new remote's.....wish we could just trade the old ones in and not pay for the ugly remote.

Dave,
Will the access points need to be configured in PH as well as the remote?
Thanks!

Apparently, the original signallincs won't work with the RF Remotes. Don't know what the cause was as most figured they WOULD work with them when they came out. The access points do the same work of bridging phases as the signallincs PLUS work with the RF equipment.

But but but.... You have to buy two refurbished access points for this? How can they have refurbished units when then haven't sold any new ones yet?
Riddle me that Batman.

From what I understand, there is no need to upgrade/update unless you want remote capabilities. It appears that the current RF Lincs don't work with the remote, for whatever reason.
The "refurb" units are probably just some older RF Lincs that have been reworked into the AccessPoints.
Notice also that according to the web pics, there is no pass-though outlet on the AccessPoint...

At some point, there are supposed to be additional RF devices besides the remote.

One important MAJOR difference between the new AccessPoint and older SignaLincs is that the AccessPoint works with extended Insteon commands. The SignaLincs don't. The current Insteon specification is calling for future Insteon products to support extended commands (the RemoteLinc and SimpleHomeNet products already do) so it would definately be a good idea to upgrade your SignaLincs.
I don't know for sure why the change in frequency. Perhaps it has to do with extended commands from an AccessPoint confusing a SignaLinc.
