OK, I have spent many hours trying to figure this out, and have not found anything that indicates if I have a hardware issue or just a setup issue. I am unable to get power home to communicate with the plc and I have tried 2 different computers. this is the log I get after setting the com port with port=com1 (which is my serial port)

ui:
uifinished:
downloadTimer started
timerActivate not enabled
ui:PORT=COM1
PLC:disconnect=OK
PLC:port=true
uifinished:PORT=COM1
SDM:DM=active,1.01.88.235,3/5/2007 8:21:39 PM,unresponsive,,0.0

I have the control set as Insteon DM

any help would be appreciated, I was unable to get any addiotnal details, as none of the commands returns any info.

OK, I was able to get it to work after killing a bunch of startups (not sure which program was interfering) I cannot seem to get Power home to work with the PLC on my laptop using a USB to serial cable on Com2, has anyone been able to get it to work this way?

Also, I have 2 signal enhancers, do they need to be added to the Power Home database to work? I didn't see them in the listing of devices, and they are not auto discovered.

as for the signal-lincs, no they are not added to the database. I use a USB PLC, so I can't comment on the other.

That is what I assumed, but better safe than sorry.   Any comments on the USB-Serial would be great if anyone was able to get it to work.

A lot of people have issues with USB-to-serial adapters in general. I have, however, seen good reports on the Edgeport versions, which are common on ebay.

Cicero is correct, SignaLincs do not show or need to be added to PowerHome.

I actually did development and testing for the serial version of the PowerLinc using a USB to serial adaptor. Im not at home at the moment, so I cant tell you what brand it is. It came from Comp-USA in the notebook computer section and is a single serial port to USB adaptor. It's also what I used to create the controller for the Elk. Works great so far.

HTH,

Dave.

My USB to serial works great with the ELK M1 G I just wasn't able to get it to communicate with the PLC for some reason. Always returned a 0.0 firmware version and no communication.
