Hi Dave,

First of all my compliments for a great and powerful program. The possibilities of what you can do with PH seam almost endless. I initially bought HouseLinc (for about the same price) and it is just no comparison!

I have a problem getting PH to "see" my redrat3. I looked through the message board to find as much information as I could, but I’m very new at PH, so I probably missed something.

I installed Microsoft .NET framework v1.1 (Microsoft Automatic Update installed v 2.0 and v3.0)
I run Windows XP Home
I installed Redrat SDK v1.23

I installed the RR with the driver from the RR CD.
I install the RedRat3 Runtime

The phrr3.ocx file is in the PowerHome folder.
I have registered the phrr3.ocx-file (regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\powerhome\phrr3.ocx") and get the message: "DllregisterServer in C:\Program Files\powerhome\phrr3.ocx succeeded"

I installed VBRun60.exe

I tested the RR3 with the software that came with it and it works fine.

I installed the controller under setup->controllers, but there is no mention of a RedRat in the .ini-file.

When I run the command "ph_connect("REDRAT3")", I get the message "Cannot find the phrr3.ocx control. Please install and register this control. Commands will not be transmitted." and the command returns a 1 (failed)

Re-registering the ocx-file again makes no difference.

I run PH version 1.03.4.9, db version 1.03.9.3.
In the ‘about’ window it reads: “NOT CONNECTED. ID: REDRAT3   RedRat3 IR Controller”

The PowerLinc controller I have works fine.
When I reinitialize I get the massage:
A critical error occurred at 2007-03-04 11:04:05.468.
PowerHome Version: 1.03.4.9
Error Number: 35
Error Message: Error calling external object function disconnect at line 1 in function f_controllerdisconnect of object uo_controller_redrat3.
Window: uo_controller_redrat3
Object: uo_controller_redrat3
Event: f_controllerdisconnect
Line: 1
After that PH ‘hangs’ with the message “PowerHome is reinitializing. Please Wait…”
When I start PH, I get the message “"Cannot find the phrr3.ocx control. Please install and register this control. Commands will not be transmitted."

Any idea of what I am missing?
Thanks.

Jos,

It sounds as if you've done everything right...not quite sure what may be wrong. From what you've posted, you've installed some apps that you don't need, and I know the order is sometimes important with the RR3.

The way I would try to fix would be to first uninstall ALL RedRat3 drivers, SDK's, runtimes, etc. Lets start with a clean slate for the RR3.

Next I would install the RedRat3 driver on the RR3 CD. Hopefully the .Net installation is ok, not sure what happens with the Windows auto-upgrade, but we'll proceed like it's alright. We don't need to worry about the VB6 runtime since it's now included with the latest versions of PowerHome.

After installing the RR3 driver from the CD, next install the 1.11 SDK using this link http://www.redrat.co.uk/SDK/RedRat_SDK_1.11.zip. You had said you installed the 1.23 SDK which I believe is incompatible with PowerHome. Don't fool with the runtimes, installing them may actually dork up the SDK installation.

After the RR3 driver and 1.11 SDK, try UN-registering the phrr3.ocx. Add a /u to the regsvr32 command line to unregister. After unregistering, try the normal register like you did above.

Note...PowerHome should be shutdown during all of the above. After the above is complete, re-launch PowerHome and see where we get.

Also, don't worry about the INI file. You were probably referencing an earlier RR3 post and that information used to be in the INI file. In later PowerHome versions, it's contained within the database and is available in the Setup|Controllers screen under the "Settings" button.

Let me know,

Dave.

Dave,

Thanks! It works like a charm.
I guess it must have been the wrong version of the SDK that created my problems.

GREAT SUPPORT! THANKS AGAIN!
