Is there any way to have a non linked Insteon KeypadLinc button trigger a task within the Elk M1? I assume it is possible to trigger things within PH by an unlinked button, but I want to trigger the M1 directly.
This was easy to do with X-10 and a mini-controller set to an address with no other devices. Is there any way to fake a link from the KPL? Of course, I expect that to log errors during PH's polling process. :(

I'm pretty sure that Insteon only sends data when there is a link. You could just link it to the PLC.

elkinsteon.exe only shows one entry per KPL. It is that entry number that links to the M1 database. So the M1 has knowledge/control of the load connected to the KPL, but no knowledge of any other links to/from that KPL. If a KPL button was linked to a SwitchLinc, then that SwitchLinc would have an associated address in the M1 also. But when there isn't anything physical linked to the KPL button, I don't see how to trick elkinsteon.exe into letting me get a link number into the M1. In simple terms, elkinsteon.exe maps Insteon devices to a 1-192 listing, very similar to how X-10 addresses would map.

Wayne,
I don't believe so. The Elk (and the M1XSP) has no knowledge of Insteon links...only addresses. From my experience, the Elk is also only able to work with Group 1. Now if the KPL button you're trying to trigger off of is button 1 (even if no load is connected), as long as you've created a link between that button and the PLC, then the Elk should recognize the button press.
Dave.
