Hi - previously i mentioned that when I tried to delete a device from the Units menu that wasn't connected, PH tried to DELETE LINK (in the Insteon Explorer) forever.

Today I tried to delete a -connected-, current generation plug-in dimmer module from the Units page. As a result, there is one DELETE LINK entry in Pending operations, and an infinitely increasing list of DELETE LIST entries under completed operations. Re-initing doesn't help. I need to restore from an old database. (Fortunately I now create a backup every day).

Dave - people do need to delete devices - could this possibly go on the "fix soon" list? It should be easy to reproduce. (Or at least add a "kill" button?)

Thanks!
/j

Jeff,

Please email me a copy of your database.

Thanks,

Also, before restoring from an old database, in Insteon Explorer on the Links tab, highlight the link that is pending deletion. With the
link highlighted (under either the controllers or responders window), press the "Remove" button (left hand side) and then "Save".

I think that's what got me in trouble - I did the drag/drop removal, closed the window -it asked me to save changes - and that's when the trouble started :-)

Jeff,

The drag/drop of the link will cause PowerHome to flag the link for deletion and try to communicate with the associated devices to actually delete
the link. The "Remove" button just removes the link from the database without trying to communicate with the devices. It should clear your problem
without having to restore the database.

Dave.

Hi Dave - ok I didn't know about that - and doing the remove had no side effect. However, as soon as I closed the window it i did a save, it did a CREATE INITIAL I2CS DEVICE on the removed module. That was ok when the module was plugged in, but I did the remove again, unplugged the module, and right after it did the save it started trying forever (well, at least for a while) to do the CREATE. Not even plugging the module in again made a difference - so back to a backed up database :-(.

Sorry

Many thanks to Dave who provided remote tech support today. This is not a PH bug. There's just a nuance to how you remove a device that is either a) no longer on the network or b) I2CS. What you have to do first is check the Disabled box in the Devices tab in Insteon Explorer. This tells PH not to do background tasks like try to delete the link from the device, or (for I2CS) try to re-detect the device after it's removed.   After you do that, you can remove the link and then the device.   There are two ways to remove the link(s) - the REMOVE button in the Links tab removes the link only from the PLM side, which is ok if that's the only link you care about (which would be if the device is no longer alive). A drag/drop of the link into the left hand list does the remove from both sides, which is needed if it's linked to a controller that's not the PLM.

I also learned a couple of tricks today: In the Links tab, double clicking on an item on the left hand list selects it as the active device. Also, if you want to link to a battery device you need to put the device in Link mode so that it's alive so PH can talk to it.

Anyway - Again, thanks Dave! Powerhome Rocks!

Best
