There are too many things going on that I can't stop. Right now I am in SCAN LINK Hell and I can't get out. It just won't stop scanning the links of a device. I may have told it to scan the device a couple of hours ago and it didn't do it then, but I don't want it to now, but I can't stop it.
I want this to work, I really do, but the old version was so simple.

Herdfan,
What is the problem? PH is supposed to scan the links continuously if you have the "Scan links" checked off. Is it not finding links you know to exist, or are links still reading "checking" or creating etc? If so, goto the devic maintenace tab and see if any of the devices are colored pink. If so, mark the "clear flag" checkbox of each one and hit refresh. I had the very same problem.
Its a bit frustrating at first, but its worth it once you see the light.

I turn off the Status Scan as soon as I open Insteon Explorer. In my Pending Operations window It says:
"SCAN LINK, Record XX, Device XX.XX.XX"
The it scans it and move to Record XX+1 and just keeps doing it. I can't make it stop. I have removed the device from the active list. It won't stop until it is finshed and it has been scanning links for over an hour.

I let it run all night and now I can't turn off POLL STATUS.
I restarted and immediately uncheck the STATUS SCAN, LEVEL SCAN and LINK SCAN boxes.
All I want right now is for the Pending Operations window to be empty. It was empty before, I just can't get back to there.

Have you gone into the PLC options under the old PH Explorer, Controllers config and unchecked these items? This will keep them from firing as soon as the program is opened. Save the changes and restart PH. This might help.

Thanks. That ended the scans.
However, here is my most recent issue.
I know I have communications because I can go into device control and turn devices on and off.
I built a link from Device A to Control Button 2 of device B. (B is a KPL in 8 button mode)
I went to the Links tab, highlighted Device A in the middle window. Found Device B in the Responders window, moved it over, set Button 2 and pressed SAVE.
In the Pending Operations window, it listed:
CREATE LINK: CTLR Device A; Resp Button 2 Device B.
Or something like that. In the Repsonders window, both the Controller and Responder fields indicated FLAGGED CREATE.
The SDM window started processing and soon the
CREATE LINK: CTLR Device A; Resp Button 2 Device B.
was moved from the Pending Operations to the Completed Operations window.
However, the Reponders window still said FLAGGED CREATE and pressing the REFRESH button didn't fix it nor did a restart.
To top it off, the link was supposed to be created wasn't.

Herdfan,
Are you sure you really want the pending operations window to be empty? Even with the old version, PowerHome was constantly performing these same operations in the background (as long as you had them enabled), you just couldnt see it happening.
Cicero has you covered on the way to shut it off. It currently must be done in the Settings window under the Controller setup. Ive added an option to save the settings on the Insteon Explorer window permanent (the same as if you go into the Settings window) to the next version. Even if you change the settings on the Insteon Explorer, it must still finish out the current task at hand. If this is scanning the links in a device, then it will scan every link in the device and when done, won't scan anymore. You would need to reinitialize to get it to completely interrupt the current operation.
PowerHome scans the links of a device on demand but also whenever it detects that something has changed in the internal database (as determined by the database flag returned by a Status scan). If you want to get rid of the link scanning altogether, the best way is to go to the Settings window in Controller setup, uncheck Link Scan and reinitialize. It won't scan links after this.
Concerning the create link problem. This is indeed strange. As long as both devices are active and not failed on communications, then the link should have been created. The FLAGGED CREATE would remain on screen until you hit "Refresh" as this screen doesnt update automatically. But after it moves to completed and you press Refresh, then the FLAGGED CREATE should have changed to VERIFIED.
Now even if the link was created and Ive got a problem with the status display, the link may still not work due to a firmware issue in newer KPL's. Apparently there is a problem controlling secondary KPL buttons if you've got any links controlling the main button first. In other words, you've got the KPL and it has a list of valid links both controller links and responder links. These links are created sequentially in order. If you've got a responder link that controls the main KPL load in link position 5, then any responder links to secondary KPL buttons in links positions greater than 5 will be ignored. This is a known bug that has been reported to SmartHome and will supposedly be fixed soon. In the meantime, the only way to work around it is to create secondary button responder links before any main button responder links. Im working on an enhancement to the Links screen that will allow the user to set the desired link creation order to work around this problem as well as optimize the links for speed (typically, it would be better to have responder links lower in memory than controller links since you would want devices to respond to group commands as close to instant as possible while it's not as important for controller links since these are just used for group cleanup commands).
Anyways, it sounds as if you may want to email me a copy of your database so I can analyze and determine what may be causing the problem.
Let me know,
Dave.

Concerning the creation order on the KPLs Dave, it's only within the same groups. If you have a group controlling the load button and another group controlling the secodary buttons, this isn't a problem. BUT if you have a group controlling the main button AND the secondary buttons (all off or something) you have to link to the secondaries first.

Yes. As I go about adding links etc. I don't want anything in the windows other than what I am doing. It helps me keep track of what I did.

This is the second time you have mentioned Reinitialize.
What is it and how do you do it?

Tried to create some all new links this morning. All operation listed in the Completed Operations Window, but only 3 of the 6 moved from CREATE LINK to VERIFIED. The VERIFIED ones did create the links.

Which versions. I was motivated to install the new version when I needed to replace a failed 1.0 with a 1.3 and the REPLACE DEVICE didn't really work. I also have some 1.4's.

Herdfan,
Received your DB and I know we've communicated a couple of times via email. The "Reinitialize" is under the "File" menu and basically restarts PowerHome internally without having to exit and restart. Certain parameters are ONLY read into PowerHome memory on startup or reinitialize (most particularly anything in the PowerHome Explorer under the "Setup" area).
Im not sure which version of the KPL has the internal group problem. Perhaps someone else can comment. The problem Im referring to is the one where link order creation is important when linking secondary buttons on a KPL.
Any further news?
Dave.

I sent in some KPLs about 2 weeks ago and received back KPLs that had stickers V1.0 and Rev 2.4. At least one of them displayed this bug. Using PH, it is fairly easy to spot and fix because you can see the order the links were created.
I'm not sure if my earlier versions had the bug - I know that everything worked, but I don't know the order of the links...
