Now that I can see my event log I am puzzled at what I (don't)see. I have some Insteon activity being generated by PowerHome but no corresponding events in the log to show me what it is doing. Background Status Check and Background Local Level Scan are NOT checked in the controller settings so I don't know what the traffic repesents. For now I keep PowerHome shut down if I am not actually changing links because I don't know what is going on with this unlogged Insteon traffic.

If you still have "background database scan" you will have traffic in the SDM window for polling devices to see that they match the database (or for new manual link changes). That traffic isn't in the power-home event logs.

Normally I shut off BG DB Scan since once my database is verified I only do linking via powerhome and I don't want all the extra traffic.

BG Status Check is I believe the ability to poll the devices for their status -- If all of the devices are cross linked back to the PLC that shouldn't be necessary except to get the device status screen in sync when you first start up but I still usually leave this one on.

BG Local Level Scan is I believe the reading of the local level (and ramprate?) settings from SwitchLincs so that the Insteon devices screen can help you determine which ones you might need to visit to manually change (since I don't think this can be changed without pressing the set button on the switches). I haven't really experimented with this much so there may be more to it.

I changed my settings to match yours and still saw traffic being generated. I'm just going to leave PowerHome off for now till I have time to figure out what it is doing.

Mike,

Background Insteon traffic is not logged (the log would fill up so fast it would nearly unusable). There is a bug in the current version where a Peek LSB command does get in the log and shows as an "Unmapped Command".

The thing to do would be to monitor your SDM log and post the output from it. I'll be able to analyze the traffic and tell you what might be going on. If background status check and background database scanning are off, then you should'nt have any background traffic other than when you create links, delete links, or change link level/ramprates. You can kill even this by setting Background Polling to 0. Remember that anytime you make changes to the Setup area of the Explorer that you must reinitialize or restart in order for the changes to take effect.

Dave.
