To all users with a mixed x10 / Insteon environment:
All my light switches are currently x10.
Despite the marketing, I've read on this forum that a mixed environment doesn't work so well.
Is this something that is improving, or would I need to replace all x10 switches with Insteon to keep my current level of reliability?
Thanks,
Manny

So far, I have installed two Icon dimmer switches and one regular Insteon lamp module. No problems unless I install my SignalLincs. When I do, X10 on my second floor goes away. Maybe an X10 phase coupler would help... dunno. Need to remember to try and get one to test.

Manny,
I cant speak from firsthand experience (Ive gone all Insteon in the new house and have no X10), but from what Ive read from numerous users on multiple forums is that once you get to a certain number of Insteon devices, the X10 reliability is out the window.
It seems to be a catch-22. With only a few Insteon devices, the Insteon network is not as reliable as it could be. Anytime you have apparent communication problems, SmartHome usually recommends adding more Insteon devices so that the simulcasting will be stronger. Then, once you get to a certain saturation level of Insteon, the X10 reliability goes way down.
However, everyones situation and house is unique so YMMV. I have heard some people say they have hybrid systems and have no problems.
Dave.
