I've been looking at audio throughout the house and automatice speaker switching in particular. The AB8SS http://www.hacs.com/ab8ss.html allows 2 amps to be connected to 8 sets of speakers. The amp inputs and speaker outputs are controlled by x-10 commands and/or IR commands. It seems that PH should be able to control this device but I'm not sure. Anybody have any thoughts. Anyone have such a device or something similar controlled by PH?
Here is a teaser:
"Enjoy classical music in the kitchen and family room as the children
study their homework upstairs in their quiet bedrooms. When dinner is ready,
activate the upstairs speakers and call them down. Wake up to soft music in the
morning, be lulled to sleep with your favorite jazz CD in the evening. Use your
computer to announce Caller-ID information to different parts of the house or to
make special musical alarm clocks for each family member. With the AB8SS at the
heart of your whole-house audio system, your imagination is the limit."

Noel,
You should be able to control this device with PowerHome using all 3 methods. If you want to control using X10, then the unit requires a TW-523 and PowerHome will have no problems creating the necessary X10 commands.
If you want to control using IR, then you'll need to purchase one of the supported IR controllers for use within PowerHome (USB-Uirt, RedRat3, Ocelot, etc.)
It also has direct serial port control which should be able to be easily controlled using the PowerHome COM routines. This can be done directly within PowerHome, as a separate VB type app that PowerHome controls using Windows messages, or by the plug-in interface (to be released in the near future).
However, you look at it, PowerHome will be able to work with this device using whatever interface you prefer.
If you do get this device, please post your experiences as Im interested in something like this as well.
Dave.
