You can do just about anything you like with the web interface using PSP. However, this is more of an advanced concept. You can also do this type of thing using just static HTML calling standard PowerHome CGI commands. But the easiest for your situation, just basic On and Off of X-10 controls would be just to use the Control Center.
From the PowerHome Explorer, navigate to "Control Center" and create a Control Center tab. Basically, just give it an ID (something meaningful such as "X10 CONTROL") and set the tab order > 0. Click on the little button on the far left of the line you just created. You should now be in "Control Center Button Details". For your first button, type a valid "Key Description" and choose a button type of "X-10". Next select the ID of the X-10 device you wish to control (you did already create your X-10 devices in the "Devices" section of the Explorer, didn't you ). Select the type of Key (on, off, dim, bright) and press "F5" to save your changes.
If you've activated the webserver (Setup->Web in the Explorer), then just use this URL in your web browser: http://127.0.0.1/ph-cgi/controlcenter? and you should see your single X-10 Control Center button.
Now all you have to do is create more buttons using the same screens above. Note though that all your buttons will initially be created in the upper left hand corner stacked one on top of the other. To fix this, after saving your changes in the Explorer (the "F5" key), open the Client Control Center by pressing "Alt-F1". If it's already open, then close it and reopen it. You'll see what appears to be a single button. Right-click on the Control Center and choose "Open Design View". A new window will open allowing you to design your button layout including colors, size, location. To quickly just space all the buttons out so you can see them and work with them easier press "Shift-F11". From there you can turn on "drag and drop" mode and move and resize the buttons to your liking. Press "Shift-F12" to save your changes and the next time you bring up the above URL in your browser, you'll see your changes.
This will be the easiest, non-programmatic method of getting simple on/off X-10 button control via the web.
Let me know how it goes,
Dave.

What is saying "communication with server failed". Is it Internet Explorer?
From the PowerHome Explorer, navigate to Setup->Web. Make sure that the web server is enabled. Check the port setting. If you're not running any other web server on the PowerHome machine then set the port to 80. Be sure that you type in a Master UserID and Password. If you make any changes to this page then either restart or reinitialize PowerHome.
On the same machine as PowerHome, launch Internet Explorer. In the address field, type: http://127.0.0.1 and press enter. You should be prompted for a userid and password. Enter the master userid and password that you typed in the web setup screen. You should then see the web version of the Device Status screen. If you do, then you can click on "Control Center" in the menu and see if that comes up. If not, then we'll have to troubleshoot further.

If you are trying to access PowerHome from Internet Explorer on the PowerHome machine, then no, port forwarding wont matter. Is it possible that you are running some form of personal firewall such as zone alarm on the PH machine? If so, then you will have to allow PH to act as a server.
You can also try changing the port just in case there is a conflict. In the settings window, change the port to 8000. Reinitialize PowerHome. Open IE and use the following: http://127.0.0.1:8000
Let me know how that goes.
Dave.

Heh,
Guess I was too slow getting back to the board .
Anyways, Im glad you got it working. As you've found out, to access from outside your network, you play with the port forwarding on your router.
Let me know if you have any other problems or questions.
Dave.
