I'm trying to cut down on my physical hardware at home. I have a server running VMWare but, unfortunately, it has no Serial port and VMWare doesn't support USB-to-Serial adapters, so i'm stuck with a separate machine for powerhome. Will powerhome work with a ethernet-to-serial adapter? Anyone know about stability?

Cicero,

The beta version 2.1.4 includes support for a virtual serial port plugin. This plugin will connect to an ethernet serial port and should work. I have tested and can confirm that it works with the Global Cache ethernet serial ports (contained on the GC-100) and have also gotten it working on remote serial ports on other PC's. Depending upon the type of ethernet serial port, I would suspect you wouldnt have any problems.

I have also tested this scenario running PowerHome in a virtual machine (VirtualBox) with multiple instances of the virtual serial port plugin and have had no issues.

Hope this helps,

Dave.
