I have an Insteon 2456S3 Appliance controller used to control a Halogen yard lite. Since there are no Insteon (that I can find) wireless wall switch devices (but there are X10) I have a auxiliary stick-on X10 wall switch that transmitts a A1 on/off command to a X10 Signal converter and RF Base in the garage by the light.
Problem is the Insteon Appliance controling the light does not respond even though I have an "A1" X10 address assigned to it via PH.
Worse I never see an X10 activity in the Raw Log of PH. Thinking the X10 remote and RF base might be bad, I substituted another but with the same result.
I'm using a 2412U PLM, and have been for some time, but this is the first time in a long while I have tried to use this yard light and noticed that there was no X10 traffic noticed. The last time I checked on things I had a PLC (vs the current PLM). Is there any reason the PLM doesn't see X10 traffic?
Any ideas? This used to work, but all is dead as a door nail now (the Insteon commands all work OK)

The PLM does not require any X10 device definition to see X10 traffic. Move the X10 RF receiver closer to the PLM plug point. Could be the X10 signal is not getting from the garage to the PLM or the RF device is not sending X10. If you used PH2 to assign the X10 address to the ApplianceLinc some devices need to be power cycled before the X10 address takes effect. Not sure if the ApplianceLinc is one of those.

I tried to use this once as an x10 controller and found if the load was not sufficient it would not go on. In my case it was a plasma tv. I found if I plugged a 60 watt light in it worked. I don’t know if it is the same problem BUT. I have not had a problem though as an Insteon device. You have to set the x10 code in the device manually using an x10 controller. Why not go directly to the yard light switch?

Lee/Pete - thanks for being so quick to respond. Always much appreciated!!
Took my Elk Signal Meter out to the garage and discovered that the X10 signal injected by the X10 RF Base doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Can't seem to measure anything at any other outlets in the garage. Tried two different RF Base units but with same non-performance results. Don't know what's going on, but obviously the signal is getting hijacked somewhere in the garage wiring (which has beau coup motors, electronics, etc plugged into it.)
So, long story short, decided to order an Insteon KeyPad tonight to replace my garage light switch. That way I can still control my garage lites as well as the outside Halogen lamp (which is 500 watts so not a low load issue Pete!). This will get rid of the LAST X10 device on my extensive automation network and give me better connectivity by staying all Insteon. Probably should have done this a long time ago. I know the Insteon signals get around as I have my lights turned on by a EZIO8T controller when the doors open, and that works fine and is tied to the same electrical feed as the light I'm trying to control.
PS-the reason I have to do all this horsing around is that the outside halogen light was never wired into the building, so I wired an outlet into a hot electrical run thru the attic and plugged an Insteon Appliance Module in with the Halogen lamp connected. Thus there is no physical switch for the light, only virtual switches.

It is. That is the device I was trying to control using an X10 address in the 2456S3.
But since I ordered a Keypad last night, I won't have to fight this last non-Insteon device on my home network, finally (after many years) giving me an all Insteon design, with the added advantage that I can also control some other lights, that I now have to go out of my way in order to get to the switch.
