I am strongly considering purchasing the software, but some things give me pause:
1) Errors in Windows 7
a) Is Windows 7 support coming
b) Are there particular workarounds for install?
(I've attempted workarounds meant for Vista, but
with no success.)
2) No new version or update to the program has been published since Dec 2008. With the constant additions of hardware and configurations, it is important that a $100 piece of software be kept up to date, not be over a year old at the time of purchase.
3) This is a fantastic piece of software as it is, but I'm in the early stages of buying hardware and worry about support.
Anyone that can help guide me as to the safest hardware path to go and any suggestions for WIndows 7 support?

I run on Win7 with no problems and also on Vista. There’s a new Beta coming out in the near future.

Did you need to do anything in particular? Using Win7 x64 btw with UAC off

I don’t run 64 bit and that may be an issue. I’ll let someone else chime in on that. I personally run with UAC off on both, my preference. I also run in admin mode with XP compatibility on.

I run W7 x64. No problems whatsoever. It is also my home
theater PC. Works great.

Oh, and I also keep UAC off. Makes it a lot easier to VNC
into the box b/c if the UAC pops up, you lose your
connection.

Do you use any specific compatibility settings, install directory, etc? I get errors for "Accessibility Database" at startup.

When I see that it is usually caused by a lost path to the DB. I corrected it by running as Admin. When you install as Admin and run normal you will most likely lose the DB path. Also check the powerhome.ini and the 1st entry for the correct path to the DB.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I got some kind of database
error when I first started it up, but I found out on the
forum there is a setting in the powerhome.ini file that
needs updating. That was it.

While I've got your attention:
Here's my scenario:
I want a vacation mode button in CC that is ON (1) or OFF (0) as a global variable. WHat is the best way to evaluate that as an if statement in a macro before it actually performs it.

I know this might seem odd to you, but not all software is released so buggy that constant updates are needed. PH is fairly mature, and someone with a solid V1.0 system need not even upgrade to 2.0. That being said, the developer (Dave) as a very thorough coder and tester, so that releases are typically rock-solid. If there's an immediate need to support some new popular module, he handles it, but there is no need for "regular" releases, nor are they desirable with an application like home-automation which you really want to be rock-solid.
