Anyone using a Global Cache with PowerHome? I have tried setting this up,
and seem to have all of pieces talking (PowerHome, a GC-100-06, a GC-IRL
and a GC-RG1) but something is missing that prevents it from working.
I am hoping someone can document on the steps they took to get things
working.
So far I have been using the Global Cache IR learner application to
successfully capture the incoming IR codes. I copy and paste these values
into the incoming and outgoing fields within the PowerHome IR device
configuration. This does not seem to be working for me however.

Hi Jayson,
I do not have a GC-100-06 yet, but would also like to know how to setup one using PH.
I have an additional question that hopefully can be answered and you don't mind me using your thread to ask a related question.
I have a USB-UIRT device that I've learned a lot of codes with and have stored those in PH. I currently use this device with great success, however would like a little more robust solution like what the Global Cache unit has to offer.
My question is, can I use those codes learned via the USB-UIRT device, with the GC-100-06 or would I need to purchase the GC-IRL to re-learn all of the codes?
I hope someone can answer both our questions.

Im using one  . It should be fairly easy to setup. Just define the Global Cache as a controller in the Setup|Controllers screen and set the IP address under "Settings". I cant remember if the GC comes with a default IP address set, but Im using 192.168.0.70 which I believe was configured using IE via the internal GC's web server. If all is configured properly, you should be able to go to Help|About|Controllers and see the Global Cache listed along with it's configuration.
The GC-IRL and GC-IRE are not yet supported. They can definately be used with the GC's IR Learner utility to actually learn the IR codes, just not directly by PH (yet). When learning IR codes, you must learn (or save) them in "Pronto" format rather than the native GC format. You can then copy and paste the "Pronto" codes into the "Outgoing" column (no need to paste in incoming column since the GC itself doesnt support incoming IR). When copying and pasting the Pronto code to PH, be sure and prefix the code with <pronto>. Your result should look something like:
<pronto>0000 004E 0000 0046 0015 0149 0015...
Any codes that have been learned with the USB-Uirt can be used with the GC...as long as they were saved in Pronto format. This is actually the device I use to learn my IR codes (along with a RedRat3) since the support for the GC-IRL is not in PH yet. Once support for the GC-IRL is added, PH will support saving directly to GC format, but in the meantime, the universal format that is accepted for almost all of PH's supported IR controllers is the Pronto format.

Dave,
Ah. The pronto vs GC format must have been where I went wrong. I did not
do that in my initial testing. I just copied over the GC code.
Big request then for IRE support connected to the GC-100 serial port. Dare I
ask where it ranks on the todo list? I would be more than happy to lead up
the QA on this feature.

Ive looked at the specs and it doesnt appear difficult. I was rather hoping to have IRE and IRL support in the .13 beta. Im not sure if I will support using the GC's serial port though. I definately plan on supporting the GC's serial port (for ANY serial device)...just didnt have it slated for .13.

My offer to head up some QA still stands. My main goal is to be able to use GC-100's for IR input and output at my various TV's.

Dave,
I recently purchased a GC-100 and would like to try out some Pronto IR codes.
I'm able to send some serial codes to my AV receiver, thanks to Noel's help for pointing me to the Lantronix com port redirector and sharing his serial code macros.
However, I'm not sure how to send IR codes to the GC-100? Should it show up in a macro as a controller that I then could paste the Pronto codes into a formula field?
Under serial control, since I'm using the Lantronix redirector, I know I don't necessarily have to have the GC-100 set up as a controller. But, I do understand that in order to use the IR functions I need it set up as a controller. I've done that, but I'm not sure how to set up a macro to communicate to it via IR.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In PH Explorer, under devices you have to set up the device you want to communicate with and then input all the IR codes for the device.
You can then us the ph_ir* functions to send codes or within a macro choose "IR" as the command and fill in the other fields.

I should have known that, since I set up my USB-UIRT that way. I guess I was thinking the GC-100 was different since it has the ablility to do serial as well as IR.
