I need help creating a PLC Group in PowerHome because I'm too dumb to figure it out. Not much in the Manual or Insteon RTF file to help someone like me .

Can someone walk me through how to create a PLC group with two lights:

ID:     Light1 & Light2
Address: 0.0.a & 0.0.b
PLC Group: 10

Thanks

In the Insteon Explorer...

Create The Group
Go to the PLC Groups tab
Click the Append button
Give the group an ID, a description, select the controller, enter your group number, then click Save/Refresh

Create The Links
Go to the Links tab
Select your controller in the Insteon Device ID box
Grab your first light in the left pane and drag it to the right into the Responders pane
Type in your group number in the Group box (highlighted in red)
Grab your second light in the left pane and drag it to the right into the Responders pane
Type in your group number in the Group box (highlighted in red)

Click Save

Done!

I'm going to have to look at this more in the morning, it made sense, but after creating it and waiting for the links to verify, I can't control the group

By the screen shot below, does it look like I missed something, I've deleted and recreated, and I still can't control the group? Thanks... Dave

Can anyone tell me if it "looks" correct, and if I should be able to control it from the PLC Group Dialogue box?

Thanks,

Dave

It looks correct, though I'm not sure why it says checking -- maybe you just hit verify or something? At any rate, can you control the devices independently? Post the SDM log when you hit the button, and see if the commands are getting sent out...

I can control the devices from powerhome independently.

In my responders of the PLC Device, the "Resp Link Status" now says "Link not Found"

Below is what I get when I click the "Fast On" button for the Insteon Controller Group. Any thoughts?

ui:!sendinsteonraw=00 00 00 00 00 14 CF 12 00
uifinished:!sendinsteonraw=00 00 00 00 00 14 CF 12 00
si:00 00 00 00 00 14 CF 12 00
PLC:sendinsteonraw=True
PLC:eventraw=03
PLC:eventraw=03
PLC:eventraw=03

The only thing I can add is a "03" is a "Packet: Non-unique message received" whatever that means...

Dave,

Your screenshot looks fine. The SDM log looks fine as well. The problem appears to be possibly communication issues.

You say that the Responders for the PLC now say "Link not Found". That would definately indicate a problem and the group control will definately not work if the links dont' exist in the responders.

When creating links, they will first be "FLAGGED CREATE". PowerHome will try to program these links and as long as the device doesnt become flagged as Comm failed and it appears that the communications went through successfully, PowerHome will then change the link status to "VERIFIED". However, the database flag in the device will have been updated and PowerHome will eventually discover this and flag the device for scanning. PowerHome will then read in the entire devices database and actually verify the links. If the links are not found, then the link will be changed to "LINK NOT FOUND".

Once you can get the links in the device and have them verified, then you should be ready to go. However, group command are broadcast and are not acknowledged. As such, they are much less reliable than direct commands. If you have any communication problems, the group broadcasts may not be heard.

I would look into why the links have changed to "LINK NOT FOUND". Are they really not there or is the PLC having a problem communicating.

Dave.
